I would have thought the impurities would have seeped into the copper and it would require melting the item to separate them.

Luckily it looks like I'm miles off the mark.

811674 2009-09-19 01:02:00 Duzall Soldering flux, or Carbon Tetra-Chloride will do it, but CTC is a tad hard to find these days.
Duzall is quick, but it really needs to be hosed off pretty quickly and liberally.
