1107740 2010-06-07 10:46:00 Hi,

Just wondering whether a fairly new Panasonic UJ-875 (www.digistor.com) notebook optical drive would work in a (approximatly) 10 year old HP Vectra desktop pc (apcmag.com)?

Supposing of course that I use an ATAPI to IDE adaptor similar to this one. (www.trademe.co.nz)

Hope that it will, but want to ask around first...

.

You'll need an adapter to fit it in physically as well.

1107743 2010-06-12 07:51:00 Ok, got it in and BIOS said that the cdrom was disconnected so I pressed f4 to confirm and continue. Now I can find the drive in My Computer and all the info about it there, but if I try to put a disc in the drive and access the files it makes the computer freeze up. How can I make BIOS recognise it?
Any ideas?

Does it matter if I use the same IDE cable that is connected to the hard drive rather than the spare one for optical drives? The name of the drive (manufacturer and model info) shows up in drive properties in My Computer, so not sure how it couldnt be connected properly?

Does the drive have a jumper to set it to cable select or slave? If not, put it on the 2nd IDE cable rather than the same one as the HDD.

If you can jumper the drive, set it to slave & it should work ok.
