Well, Nothing apart from a bullet, so the next best course of action is to lock them away from future victims. If they have nothing left to lose then that's fine, They can do think about that in their cell.

If you're giving life sentences for driving offences then better get building the new prisons now. It just isn't that easy, so you'll end up back at the current system of working out who deserves longer sentences, and we'll be locked in this "wasn't tough enough" loop again. People can recover from drug addiction, I don't expect it is easy but it happens all the time.

I don't want to spend my money on more prisons knowing full well the evidence is it will not improve the situation.

Killing offences, not driving offences, There should be no distinction made between killing a child with your car or beating them to death with a stick.

You think the kid is less dead because his mother killed him with a car? Is the killer any less responsible?

Car accidents where someone dies will still leave you with a lot of life sentences every year, except of course where the driver kills themselves .

There's a big difference between a car-accident and a car-jesus-christ-I'm-stoned-let's-go-crash-ident! Can you not see that?

813272 2009-09-27 07:18:00 There was nothing accidental about her putting her family at risk, It was a deliberate act to drive at that speed, and the resulting crash (I wont call it an accident) and the death of the child was a direct result of her deliberate act.

A reasonable person of average intelligence wouldn't struggle with the concept.

Settle - I'm not the one who suggested we should lock up everyone who has a car accident .

I didn't see any reports she was stoned, there were traces of the drug in her system is what I saw reported . Marijuana users rarely have insight to the effects of the drug on them, usually the more they use it the more they're convinced it does them no harm . So I don't know the ins and out of this case, but chances are the driver didn't make a calculation of the risk of driving in that state . It's certainly a tragic, it's not murder .

I don't know why - but it seems the drink or drug impaired drivers too often survive the crash when innocent people more often get killed as passengers or drivers of the other car . We wouldn't have the discussion about the sentences if they had a better record of killing themselves .

No doubt the roads are a scary place, see far too many idiots out there with a seeming death wish .
