814069 2009-09-29 07:39:00 Looking forward to you testing that theory, lance4k - just don't test it on a smaller vehicle than your own. Get back to us when you've paid the fine (or are out of jail). johcar (6283)
814070 2009-09-29 07:42:00 I hear the military are thinking about replacing their camo gear with bright fluoro, on the basis that if they wear that, no-one will see them coming... :D johcar (6283)

Hunters often shoot their mates wearing flouro apparently bright colours can't be seen. Ask yourself how many kids wearing all black at night riding without lights get hit, not as many as us sensible ones with lights etc

814072 2009-09-29 07:48:00 implied duty in your opinion, but not the law. if it was law, the driver's license test would have to ask questions on how to check the cv joint, suspension etc, but it doesn't, and i doubt everyone knows how to check these things.

You do have to check tyre tread depth, whether the indicators work, whether your brakes work, etc.

814073 2009-09-29 08:03:00 if a car drives at 25kmh in a 50kmh area, the police can actually ticket the driver for driving too slow

Jeez mate... that is almost the most dumb comment I've ever read. There's no such thing as driving too slow.

The worst is that the police will do is take the driver off the road if they suspect the driver is incapable of driving at regular road speeds.

814078 2009-09-30 01:46:00 here's the road code:

. landtransport . govt . nz/roadcode/about-your-vehicle/car-requirements . html" target="_blank">www . landtransport . govt . nz

You can be fined if you drive any vehicle that is not up to WoF standard on a road . A police officer can require you to stop for a roadside vehicle check at any time .

There is nothing in the road code that says everytime you drive a car you have to check that it's up to WOF standard . It justs says if it's not you wil be fined .

I don't think it would be a crime to unknowingly drive a car that is not up to WOF standard and crash into a pedestrian . Why? Because there is nothing in the road code that says every driver has to know how to maintain their vehicle up to WOF standard and because not everyone knows how to, and if they did, i'm sure all mechanics would be out of a job .

You do have to check tyre tread depth, whether the indicators work, whether your brakes work, etc .
