I wouldn't be surprised if the NZ justice system doesn't give her some sort of reward.

Sad but true - and I speak from the experience of being a cyclist on the receiving end.

814041 2009-09-27 22:10:00 The jaw-off cyclist's group now wants to drop the speed limit on Tamaki Drive. Typical brilliance - the speed limit she was covered by was zero - it will be hard to make any cuts there.

Simply ban cyclists from any and every surface that a car may possibly use. Prefect can be the enforcer. Cycleways (With toll booths) should be provided in suitable locations, such as Cook Strait, White Island, and the Alpine Fault. The Gang Regalia Act could be widened to include Lycra.
Should cyclists wish to construct their own subterranean cycleways, that should be encouraged with subsidy of 75 cents per km. of tunnel finished, provided the cyclists allow the use of the tunnels as free-fire busways. That should satisfy everybody important.

814042 2009-09-27 23:45:00 Right on dropping the speed limit there is about as useful as tits on a bull the speed through there is stop start to 20 kph.
Its yuppie and rich bastards central there.
If I was a Herald reporter I would tail some of the victims or use a private eye and see if the 3 who got clouted ever drive through a stop sign.
As far as lycra goes the fine should only be for men, woman are requested to wear lycra as tight as they can fit into, should be more of it.

814043 2009-09-28 02:03:00 there is no law that says you have to maintain your vehicle between warrants . If there was, i know lots of women and men that don't even know how to change the oil, let alone check the brake condition . Not everyone knows how to maintain a car .

only the police can rule a car unsafe and order it off the road if it has a warrant .

and if a car fails a warrant, you are still allowed to drive it only to get repairs . so unwarranted vehicles can be driven on the road legally .

From the information I have from some mates who were actually there (and missed being involved by a matter of meters), she was in her early twenties . University exams can and do occur on a Saturday .

If there was something wrong with the brakes and the car had a warrant, that does not make any difference (and that is pure supposition anyway . . . ) . The warrant only means that a vehicle has passed a standard at a given point in time . It does not mean that you don't have to maintain the vehicle between WOFs .

You must be out of touch lance4K . Almost all serious roadies have a computer/speedo (mine is a GPS with a heart rate monitor) and this is the approximate speed I was told they were travelling .

Where the cyclists were in relation to the kerb is irrelevant here . She rolled through a stop sign . Again you are speculating . From my previous experience of that section of the ride, and knowing these guys, they would not have been "in the middle of the road" .

And what has "impeding the flow of traffic" (which usually relates to traffic approaching from behind) got to do with this situation? She rolled through the compulsory stop from the cyclist's left .

Had a friend in my younger days whose insurance company would not pay out following an accident because they said his tyres were bald. Warrant Of Fitness had been issued 3 days prior by VTNZ, with no warnings about the tyres. I know, slightly different issue, but there is an implied duty to maintain your vehicle so that it is fit for the road. Not just at WOF time.

814046 2009-09-28 03:10:00 Watch Campbelllive on TV3 tonight, a couple of us talking about cycle safety . But I guess that will depend on how it's edited .

Hopefully we don't come across as complete goobers . . .

Apologies in advance to prefect, who seems to be offended by the sight of men in lycra  (I'm the one without a goatee)
