812896 2009-09-23 02:52:00 That sounds great Greg and Scouse - good advice and sounds like nice accommodations too.

February = Summer? Huh?

We are finishing Summer here right now and looking forward to a cooler Fall.

I'm going to get an itinerary up and figger who gets blessed by my royal visit.

Can anyone get me Metla's address? He said he has a cold one for me in the fridge. I can curl up on his couch for a day or two, taking in the local color.

I've run into some unexpected funds and think I need to take Rosanna on a better trip than the Grand Canyon - which is where she wanted to go. I said: "New Zealand" and she lit up. She's never been out of country except for one trip to Tecate, Mexico where she was scared for her life.

Will we need English-Kiwi interpreters? The "left-sided" thing I can handle, as I don't drink to inebriation for obvious reasons - and my finest hour will be eating some real lamb - but I'm still out on ruining the flavor with any sort of green congealed condiments.

Walking may not be my greatest strength and I will need to either rent a car or maybe train to other places and rent whatever form of transportation there is there. I think my Arizona driver's license will be OK.

Not much of a "pub-crawler" unless there's some cool jazz involved and maybe a good dinner show - but good local food is one of my priority considerations.

I don't swim and I love fishing, but if fishing gets in the way of meeting new friends, I'd rather meet new friends. A fish is a fish either here or there. I also intend on wearing my camera out with all the pixs I'll be taking.

I'd like to find where Rob_On_Guitar plays and if in a nightspot, so be it.

There'll be more that I want to see and people I want to meet and know.

Shall we bring any Vegemite for youse guys?

Hopefully not. Just don't be too surprised at the excessive use of the words "bro" and "cuz" in certain parts of the country.

In terms of transport, renting a car is a good idea - just polish up on some of our local road rules which are different to other parts of the world and you should be fine. Another option is that domestic airfares can be quite cheap if you book early enough, and may work out cheaper than car rental + petrol for longer trips.

812898 2009-09-23 03:19:00 I suspect a "PressF1 Get Together" may be scheduled for each major centre you visit....

We may have to find somewhere a little more salubrious than the Albert Street Food Court in Auckland to take Joe and Rosanna though!!!

That revolving restaurant at the top of the Sky Tower isn't too bad - plus there's a novelty factor too.

812900 2009-09-23 03:25:00 Forget trains Joe. I live in one of the loveliest parts of the country and our nearest train line is 200 km away. Scouse (83)
812901 2009-09-23 03:26:00 I'm with Scouse - literally and figuratively. Come to Nelson/Tasman, we only have three trains and they all go in circles, but it's a great place to visit, do a trip around Abel Tasman with Wilson's Cruises, they just bought this (www.abeltasman.co.nz).

Note, do not be put off by the 'Vista'. It has nothing to do with the Windows Operating System, far from it. :p

I was out there two weekends ago for a spot of fishing.

There are some great restaurants around the region, a real NZ stonegrill steak is one thing you'll have to have as well as some lamb, there are also a few great small breweries around here, if you like boutique beers. ;)

812902 2009-09-23 06:51:00 Two weeks are not anywhere long enough Joe. A month at least for one island will be needed. I am sure the members of this forum will really look after you so it will be realtively cheap holiday.

I am in the central North island and have bed and a car available for your use.
Just need an international driving licence for my insurance.

Keep it in mind.

Can we assume the bus is the way to go?
