Take $10 off the cheapest retail price and you have the wholesale price.

1107696 2010-06-07 12:21:00 I've got a 5770 i5 750 combo, works great for l4d2, bioshock 2, even with max/near max setts in full HD (1920x1080) I pull steady frames. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1107697 2010-06-07 21:18:00 The graphics card is the single most importnat component for gaming. I'd leave the CPU as is and bump the card up more. 5770, bit lame really. pctek (84)
1107698 2010-06-07 21:21:00 I am paying around $100 (NZ) for the GTX 260. Also, what do you think of upgrading to a core i7 (it will cost me $150)?

Yea grab the I750 quad, can no longer reccommned dual cores. You definately dont need to go I7, the I750 is a good performer and a good overclocker if you decided to go that way.

At a resolution of only 1280x1024 that GTX260 is more than enough be it a little aging, id be looking at a new monitor.

SPOT on

Whole sale price in NZ for example on a GTX 260 is a LOT more then around $100.

1107700 2010-06-08 00:25:00 I can't even find a GTX260 wholesale from the US for under US$110. Why are you running at such a low res btw, if you're spending all this $$ on a gaming PC get a decent monitor! inphinity (7274)
1107701 2010-06-08 00:55:00 What kind of monitor. Get a 22" WS or better LCD HD monitor to run at 1920 X 1080.

Spend more on GPU.

That said, you should *easily* be able to run anything at those resolutions with anti-aliasing and anti-stropic filtering on, no worries!
Spend less on the CPU and more on a nicer HD LCD to run at higher resolutions.

These prices almost sound too good to be true, I'd be careful it's not come off the back of a truck...

1107703 2010-06-08 02:32:00 It's also worth noting, I know that PBTech regularly make between 0% and 0.5% on the products they sell. There's *very* little margin in the sale of PC Hardware for the better part ... Chilling_Silence (9)

Largely agree, but those markups would be in rare situations, ie dumping ram due to price drops caused by a fast moving $NZ etc, or dumping slow moving stock.

Wholesale "averages" more around 5% and retail around 8-15% (if they have to support a store front) much less than this and they are not in business or at least not for long. Computer hardware is truly one of the worst return industries to be in.
