812810 2009-09-23 06:26:00 We have very strict rules re fireplaces etc in Chch so I think it is a local effort, will check tonight and post when I have the name.

The guy who installed it said that almost everyone who had one was unhappy, at the time the home owner was happy to get it on some Council scheme for low income earners so didn't refuse the offer, owner is sorry now but it is too late.

You would have to be very careful as to what fire you put it in as it could easily destroy some. Reminds me of this guy in England who thought he was lucky when he scored a bag of coal that fell off the back of a truck. The trouble with it was that it was smelting coal and it destroyed his fire.
The black Miri is so hard you end up spending half your time sharpening the chainsaw when sawing it up. There is some on a property north of Masterton that has been lying on the ground for well over fifty years and is still fairly solid.

812816 2009-09-24 00:22:00 Go down the creek (quite) a bit until it tastes salty, then grab the shrub weeds growing in slime. R2x1 (4628)
812817 2009-09-24 01:15:00 Confirmed that the eco fire originates from some local organization (it is unbranded although at first glance looks quite acceptable, then you realize that the handle is just held on with a bolt not even a shoulder to stop it unscrewing itself when operated, and the more you use the burner the more your worst fears are realized, built by monkeys lol) approved by CCC however I still stand by my past statements, if that's the best they can do for poor people maybe they just shouldn't bother. zqwerty (97)

Metro fires are fantastic - good thick steel in the fireboxes, NZ-made and owned, and very well priced.
