1107779 2010-06-08 00:26:00 Power outage when computer was on.
Now can not access hard drive.
Western Digital SATA
ram test ok
will not allow computer to boot with drive as slave
will not boot in computer - no operating system

is there any repair for this?
is there anyway to access the data?

Thank you!

1107780 2010-06-08 00:28:00 What drive is slave?? SATA's dont have slaves, like IDE. Go into the BIOS if it turns on and see what the bootdisk is. What version of windows is it? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1107781 2010-06-08 00:31:00 Sorry - wrong terminology.

Not visible in the bios

1107782 2010-06-08 00:34:00 I would open the case and see if its still connected. Have you got another system you can connect it to, to see if its still working? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1107783 2010-06-08 00:37:00 I have done both
I unconnected & reconnected with no change
I connected to another computer - the computer bios didn't recognize it.

1107784 2010-06-08 00:58:00 Sounds like its dead, if it doesnt get detected in another system. The power is still connected to it right?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1107785 2010-06-08 01:05:00 power is connected NZHawk (4093)
1107786 2010-06-08 01:08:00 Connect it to another PC and test it with one of WD's programs. If that does nothing its probably dead Speedy Gonzales (78)
1107787 2010-06-08 01:21:00 Thank you. NZHawk (4093)
1107788 2010-06-08 04:43:00 I'd say its killed the controller on the drive. Possible to get that expensively fixed or you could spend totally ages trying to find a matching drive and swapping it yourself but unless the data is crucial to the continuence of the universe, just replace it.

This is why we have backups. (Pctek Goes to update own backups)
