From memory they started to lock phones around the time Telecom announced XT, and got shot down *very* quickly by the commerce commission for monopoly abuse. As far as I'm aware, they haven't locked anything since, and if they do sell you a locked phone they're required to unlock it for you. Note that the 'most other carriers' you're referring to are all overseas, and usually in countries with a choice of several providers. |
