1109049 2010-06-11 03:39:00 I am running XP pro and use MS Outlook Express. For over a year I have been operating 3 email accounts, 2 at Paradise and one based at webhost.co.nz, and using Telecom as an ADSL provider.

Now, out of the blue, the webhost-based email account will not send me received emails. Each time I hit Send/Receive I get the following error message at the end.

****
The server responded with an error. Account: 'POP3.TheOBD.co.nz', Server: 'POP3.TheOBD.co.nz', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot establish SSL with POP server 202.89.43.12:110, SSL_connect error 336031996', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90
****

I have had my specialists looking at it from the Webhost/TheOBD side, and have sent screen dumps of all settings, which are OK. Everything works from their end, but not from mine!

The weird part is that the server does not require SSL for POP3, and is not set up for that!

I changed the name of the account and re-entered a new one, with the correct settings, but now I just get the identical error message for each of the two accounts.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

1109050 2010-06-11 05:53:00 2 at Paradise and one based at webhost.co.nz, and using Telecom as an ADSL provider. One Possible cause:

If telecom are the ISP supplying the ADSL, then they are not allowing paradise mail servers through.

Seen it lots of times.

You may also find that webhost.co.nz are also being blocked Via Telecom.

Also have a look at Post # 3 (forums.techarena.in)

Telecom aren't blocking Paradise, those accts are working fine. But I will contact them and check out webhost for a block.

The Post #3 link raised an interesting possibility regarding a 'Clear Text' setting, but it does not appear to be available on my OE . Not sure what that is about, but I am aware that until just recently it was working fine!

As far as firewall is concerned, i'm using Comodo, and would think that it would either block all emails or none at all. I am not getting any pop-up warnings in relation to emails with this programme.

There is no way I want to disable scanning of incoming emails!

If avast is the problem I will change it, but I have kept viruses off my computer for more than16 years because i watch what i open and because i have an antivirus programme in place!

It is the POP3 side of the equation that will not work, not the SMTP!

Is there any reason to suggest that changing the SMTP setting will alter the POP3 performance!

SMTP has nothing to do with your problem.
