2010-06-10 10:44:00 | Alright, seems my last thread didn't solve the issue . So i'm back for a third time . Back a few months ago, my vodafone supplied wired modem seemed to die . Kept losing connection to the ISP and having to reconnect, sometimes 3 times in a row at any one time . After a huge number of calls to tech support, I borrowed my stepdad's identical modem and it worked fine for about 3 or 4 days, so I figured my modem was busted . Bought a new one, an SMC barricade G modem, since I just bought a laptop and wanted to network it with my new desktop . After about a week, I started getting kicked off my network, rather than being kicked from the ISP . So I came here and made a thread about it . I was told to return my modem, which I did two days ago . Came home with one twice as expensive as the last . In the initial setups, I did lose connection a few times, like when I hooked my laptop up to the network then used a cross over to link it with my xbox, and when I tried setting up a workgroup to network my windows 7 desktop and my old windows xp one . Other than that though, it seemed to be working alright . However, about 20 minutes ago now, I was browsing some old exam papers when a browser window popped up saying connection to server has been lost . Then I noticed the icon with 'no network access' Then I check my modem, and mum is sitting at the desktop waiting for a page to load as the desktop has simultaneously been kicked off . So, I come here again asking for help before I commit heinous acts of murder against every piece of technology in my possession . I am losing my connection to my network, being kicked off all of my connections simultaneously . I cannot access my router unless I power it off . I have had the exact same problem with multiple modems . My two main computers are using windows 7, one pro, one home, one connected via ethernet, the laptop via wireless . The router I've got at the moment is a Belkin G 4 port wireless router, this one here: . co . nz/index . php?item=MODBEL1109" target="_blank">pbtech . co . nz On both my latest modems I have enabled mac filtering to only allow my computers access, I have set up a pass phrase for the wireless, WPA2 encryption, and allow it to continue broadcasting its SSID . Is there anything you guys can think of that could be causing me to tear my hair out in frustration like this?

2010-06-10 11:24:00 | Try going back to basics -- the ol -- KISS ("Keep it simple, Stupid!",) Not saying you're stupid, but dont go making it more complicated than needed . :D Dont do any MAC filtering, or IP address filtering, setting the Wireless as WPA2 encryption, should be fine . In the firewall settings, if not using Windows firewall, set them to allow the full range of the routers IP Address's . See what happens . IF it all works OK with no filtering, either leave it alone, or change 1 setting at a time, that way you know whats causing the problems if it starts again .

2010-06-10 11:33:00 | Ok I've disabled mac filtering but left my WPA, AES encryption on. I honestly don't know what could be causing this though. I mean it COULD be the same error as I was getting before, just presented in a different way. If I've had 3 modems fail since I've shifted house then perhaps it's an issue with my wiring?

Even turn off all firewalls for a while to test . |

2010-06-11 07:31:00 | NIC? And unfortunately, I've just had the problem again, as I tried browsing while mum was on youtube. Strangely enough, it completely shattered my wireless access aswell as my internet access, yet I could access my old desktop through the wired connections. I've checked my sis's network upstairs, she's on channel 1, i'm normally on 8 or 12, I've disabled mac filtering, I'm allowing my SSID to broadcast, there's pretty much nothing I haven't disabled save for my norton internet security, but all of my pc's are running it and I've never had a problem with it before. And yet, I'm still getting disconnections. And I'm getting closer and closer to putting my fist through my monitor. I mean really, how hard is it to get a connection to the internet that can run consistently with no disconnections? Some people manage to run their networks night and day without problems. SO WHY THE HELL CAN'T I? ARGH And to berry, I don't really want to turn off my firewall since that'd require turning it off for a couple days, since the problem seems to be that intermittent at the moment.

2010-06-11 08:03:00 | NIC - network interface card - in this case it might be your wireless "NIC" card. If you can log onto the wireless it mean it is working, your settings are correct. If you are getting kicked out now and then it might be interference - try to log into the router and change the channel to 1 maybe, channel 1 is non lapping so is 6 and 11 if I am correct. If not that, then I guess you could try another wireless "NIC".

2010-06-11 08:19:00 | Then it's called a built in (onboard) wireless NIC card. Might well be removable if you jack open the keyboard. Maybe a Mini PCI or the newer Mini PCI Express (I think). Like the onboard video and onboard (cable) network card these days and the onboard controller card for your USB ports :) In my 386 days we had a seprarate NIC cable card, wireless card, video card, controller card for our parallel and serial ports and the sound card. Worst case - there is also USB Wireless dongle.

2010-06-11 08:23:00 | I hear that. I used to have a 386 :) Struggled to run some dos games as it stood. Anyway, I'll leave it running on channel 11 for a while. I'm not really getting why or how this could crash my entire network/internet connection though. | 8ftmetalhaed (14526) | |
