1108806 2010-06-10 10:00:00 What would be the easiest way on a Windows file server to check what folders any particular user has access to?

Thanks

1108807 2010-06-10 12:38:00 The only way I know is to have a look on the permissions of every share. You can setup to audit as per support.microsoft.com for XP but much the same for other OS but I don't think this is what you are after. berryb (99)
1108808 2010-06-11 06:50:00 Thanks berryb have had a quick look but as you said doesn't appear to quite be what I want.

Thanks anyway.

1108810 2010-06-14 06:04:00 Is this a "real" file server, or simply a standard PC acting as a file server -- (shared folders over a LAN) wainuitech (129)
1108811 2010-06-14 06:43:00 Real file server running Server 2003 R2. stormdragon (6013)
1108812 2010-06-14 07:23:00 Try this, its from Windows Home Server, ( which is built from Server 2003) I have just wiped the drive that had server 2003, and using Small Business Server 2008. ( just checked on SBS 2008-- much the same as below)

Have a look at this, see if any help or what you want.

Click start/All Programs/Administrator Tools/Computer Management > under system Tools/ Shared Folders/ Shares -- Select the folder you want to look at, under share permissions will be all the users that have access to that folder.
Graphical Path ( kind of) Start path (www.imagef1.net.nz) -- Folders (www.imagef1.net.nz) -- double click the folder you have on the right/ Sharing permissions.

1108813 2010-06-14 07:39:00 Hi Wainui thanks but its not quite what I'm after.

Want to be able to see every share (plus folders inside if permissions are different) that any user has access to, simply by searching with there user name. Got that many shares and folders with different rights inside them, I don't want to spend forever and check each one individually and collaborate it.

Would have thought there would be an easy way as it seems a logical sort of thing to want from a security point of view.

1108814 2010-06-14 07:41:00 Just found This here (technet.microsoft.com(en-us).aspx) - no idea if it works or not -- may help (or not) wainuitech (129)
1108815 2010-06-14 09:22:00 Cheers wainuitech will have a play with that in the next couple of days. stormdragon (6013)
