1108553 2010-06-10 00:10:00 Can I boot a PC that doesn't have a graphics card or on-board graphics? I'm trying to do some troubleshooting and want to eliminate the graphics card from the equation. If I boot, it looks like it stops fairly on in the process, but of course without graphics I can't check! I don't have a spare graphics card. Tony (4941)
1108554 2010-06-10 00:14:00 Simple answer is no. It may not even POST. Connect a speaker and listen to the beeps. Sweep (90)
1108555 2010-06-10 00:15:00 Yes, you can boot with no graphics card installed provided the BIOS will allow you to do so (note that many consumer motherboards have a BIOS that prevents this, and they'll just beep sadly at you).

You can use some kind of remote network shell (e.g. ssh, telnet, rsh etc) or a serial console in order to examine the system without requiring a graphics card.

1108557 2010-06-10 00:20:00 Can you borrow a known good one? Driftwood (5551)
1108558 2010-06-10 00:25:00 Can you borrow a known good one?Probably not. It is a really old mobo with just PCI and AGP. I lied partially in the earlier post, I do have a good card, but it is PCI express. Tony (4941)

I doubt it will be possible even if you knew how to do it, as Erayd said, without a video card most BIOS should just beep (I think 8 times) to tell you there is no graphics card\it's faulty.

What is the actual problem you're having?

1108561 2010-06-10 00:34:00 Can't see anything in the BIOS that might help. It is an Phoenix AWARD BIOS. Tony (4941)

What is the actual problem you're having?Intermittent lockups. I'll start a new thread so as to not confuse the issue.

When I took out the card, I didn't get any beeps at all.
