1108192 2010-06-08 19:50:00 W7 and Ubuntu 10.4 on separate partitions:
Since installing W7 (Xp previously installed this partition) I have sound problems.MB is Intel 945 with front and rear sound ports and both mic
ports have stopped working in both W7 and Ubuntu.
Driver Sync scan says several drivers missing.
My query is!If I pay to get the DS license and update the drivers will
Ubuntu also return to life AND also the wording on the DS site appears
to say the license is for 12 months then has to be renewed I hesitate to use
my credit card if this is so.

No. Windows drivers have nothing to do with Ubuntu; Ubuntu's drivers are all either compiled into the kernel, or present as a kernel module. DS will not be able to help with Ubuntu problems.

Since installing W7 (Xp previously installed this partition) I have sound problems.Did you reinstall Ubuntu at the same time, or is this the same Ubuntu install we're talking about here?

...both mic ports have stopped working in both W7 and Ubuntu. If this is the same Ubuntu install, and the mic ports stopped working in both operating systems at the same time, then you probably have a hardware fault, and your issue is unlikely to be driver-related.

1108194 2010-06-08 20:09:00 Thanks for that.I will forget trying to repair and get a USB sound card.
I only want to use Skype and Voipcheap no other sound required. But any
way all other sound is 100% only the mic involved.

1108195 2010-06-12 20:01:00 Still have this problem:
Have found a post that was made 2006 advising that:
Intel advised that sound be turned off in bios before installing Windows with my type of board.
That sounds like the problem but I am not sure on the solution.Do I need to flash the bios
or can it be remedied via existing bios???Is a bios update something an old bloke can do saftely. How long would it take a techi to do it for me.

1108196 2010-06-13 01:43:00 No more than 10 mins if they no what they are doing. Do you know what revision of the Bios you have and is there an updated version? gary67 (56)
1108197 2010-06-13 03:14:00 My version is 2006 so I will Try the update and see if it solves the problem. kjaada (253)
1108198 2010-06-13 04:53:00 Is that the date of the motherboard or the revision number of the BIOS? gary67 (56)
1108199 2010-06-13 05:12:00 The MB is 2005 and the warning I saw from INTEL said the problem was with boards made in 2005.My sound was all 100% with XP and since updating to W7
The Mic does not work on any of the input ports on the board or with a USB sound card.

1108200 2010-06-17 19:28:00 Still have not sorted this.
Downloaded and installed latest MB update.(MB Intel D945GCL
update was LF94510j.86A.o278.EB)
Now have front ports working with Ubuntu 10.4 but no rear mic.
No front ports W7 but rear ports show as working but the mic port is not
working.Would just mention again all ports were working with XP.
