Interesting about the photos being deleted -- Whats the rules -

turn off the computer right away - DONT install any software on the PC that the data has been deleted - as this alone could cause you to over write the exact data you are trying to recover.

Always better to slave the drive and run a data recovery program from that PC. SO the guy wanting to take the PC away to run on another actually is NOT wrong.
