Can we ask that we get rid of Jim Anderton (who was stirring) and Peter Dunne as "leaders" of one member parties that are clearly going nowhere.

As leaders they get a much bigger salary than as an MP and support staff etc etc.

Speaking of "leaders", what's the deal with the Greens & Maori Parties (both "fringe" elements, if anything) having co-leaders?
Is that so they can sponge twice as much money from the taxpayers?
Hardly people who have our best interest at heart, don't ya think?

814852 2009-09-28 19:13:00 At least Peter Dunne has his own policies -I can't think of a single policy that Jim Anderton has which is different from Labour. somebody (208)
814853 2009-09-28 19:19:00 ..yet like lemmings, people still for some reason vote for him? :-/

But anyway, stuff them, I want Sue Bradford & Winston Peters to pay back society for all the crap they put the country through ;)

814854 2009-09-28 19:26:00 Peter Dunne ok for us hunting shooting fishing blokes seems strange he is so well liked in an urban electorate
Now English has paid the money back which he was entitled to its end of story.
He just didnt have the moral high ground asking us peons to tighten our belts while he was slurping from the public trough.
Bradford and Peters what a bunch of winners I hope people stop and think before ever voting for the pair of them.

Can we ask ......................

Can we ask all those who said XXX won't happen or will happen...and if I break my promise I'll resign to actually go and resign?

Can we ask all those who said xxxx is to improve things to admit it wasn't - it was to save money and leave more for their perks?

And so on.........

We don't have a democracy really.........bring back the ancient Greeks idea - politicians who broke promises or made wildly implausible ones that didn't happen were executed. Worked well for discouraging that sort of thing......

Did they really ? I'd never heard that, I will have to look it up. If that is true Pctek, then perhaps a modern version could be that if they break their promises etc we take back all of the salary. Better still, put their salary into a trust account and pay it out at the end of the 3 years and pay it out if they did anything worthwhile and kept their promises.

Unfortunately if you do something like that, the only people who would become politicians are the idiots like Bradford et al. who aren't smart enough to figure out that it's not worth the risk. Anybody who has any experience holding down a _real_ job, running their own small business, or is vaguely successful in any way wouldn't even consider entering politics. If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys - we have enough of them already, do we want any more?

Yes the downside of democracy is the great unwashed get to vote, and with MMP they get to have their votes put candidates in Parliament that are only supported by a minority of people. But you still don't get your crap through unless the majority voted for it, and in the case of Sue Bradford both major parties voted for it.

I wonder what system you'd prefer to democracy?

The fact that the "anti-smacking" bill went through says more about politically correct stupidity than democracy, I would have thought .

A great indicator of the level of intelligence of politicians .
