814510 2009-09-27 20:55:00 I have just setup my parents with a new TV which came with Freeview built in. They had a Sky installation which they can still watch but I'm blowed if I can get the Freeview working. Freeview is definatly available where they live but no matter what I do It doesn't seem to be there. The shop salesperson said it was possible to recieve both. Can someone please help - Dad is dead keen on watching Parliament TV (god only knows why lol) ? Paul Ramon (11806)
814511 2009-09-27 20:56:00 The TVs only receive DVB-T (Terrestrial UHF) Freeview. Do they have a UHF aerial and Freeview|HD reception?

If you want to use the Sky satellite dish, you'll need a separate DVB-S decoder. (And it won't be in HD)

Which Sky sub do they have? You can get parliament channel on Sky 94. I can guarantee, it's a waste of time though. :p

As they only have a dish it looks like that could be the problem then. I don't think a UHF aerial can be used up here in the Far North so maybe they will have to get a sep decoder. Wish the salesperson had given us more info now - they obviously need better training in the products they sell.

Yeah the toaster salesman are useless - I've talked to heaps of people who have bought a new LCD TV with 'freeview built in' only to find that it is about as useful as ice skates in the Sahara if you live outside of a Freeview|HD reception area. We don't get Freeview|HD in Nelson either, very disappointing. :(

It's quite alright to get a DVB-S decoder and daisy-chain the coax from the sky decoder into it, will work a charm.

814515 2009-09-27 21:49:00 If it were me I would take the TV back and get a larger or better quality instead of the Freeview built in. Sale of goods act comes in goods suitable for the purpose, the salesperson mucked up here possibly.:( Arnie (6624)
