2010-06-11 15:00:00 | if you want to convince yourself, take Virtualisation software out of the equation take the ISO image you built, write it out to a physical CD/DVD and get your PC to try to boot of it I bet it is unbootable It booted in VPC 2007 SP1, since most of the files are from a bootable XP CD. But I can't burn the ISO because I dont have any blank cds

2010-06-11 15:21:00 | I know you can do it, with Virtual PC 2007 SP1, thats how I did it. But I cant see how to do it in XP mode's version. Since if you select Virtual PC from the menu it takes you to the folder the XP VHD is in, try and add another VM, it asks for a VHD file Start Windows Virtual PC Select you VM Settings (in toolbar, or right click, Settings) DVD Drive "Open an ISO image" point to your ISO Of course when you create a brand new VM it asks for where you want to create/store the VHD file, just as if when you build a Physical PC, you need a HDD to install an OS into

2010-06-11 15:24:00 | Yep, I did create the ISO, (it IS bootable), it works with Virtual PC 2007 SP1. (I can create a new VM, add the ram, then click on start, then add the ISO I created, reset it then boot from the ISO), to see if the files I've SS'ed worked. And the XP ISO I did the other day did work. Its got all versions of .net (1.1,2,3 and 4 and their updates), all the DX updates inc the June 2010 update, all windows updates inc June 2010's updates. All the WMP and IE8's updates. Install it there's nothing else to install. But there's no option to boot from an ISO in XP Mode's version - If there is where is it? Start Windows Virtual PC Select you VM Settings (in toolbar, or right click, Settings) DVD Drive "Open an ISO image" point to your ISO

2010-06-11 15:35:00 | lol to me it is confusing, (As you can see it took me a while to figure out why the old version of VPC wouldnt install). It didnt click (that I had to uninstall XP mode's KB, before the old version would work again). And that message that says VPC 2007 SP1 isn't compat with Win7, can be misleading (for people who dont know, and they forget to uninstall the KB first). Some may think it doesnt work at all. Which I thought was strange because the same version works with Vista x64 The new version's options are a bit harder to find than Virtual PC 2007. Which was easier to find, and easier to configure

2010-06-12 05:10:00 | FINALLY got it going. Made an ISO with the XP CD, using Poweriso, added it to VPC, installed it, then updated it. Then installed RyanVM Integrator and Nlite, slipstreamed the updates, created the ISO, then added that to VPC to test it. All go! Tried to do the same with Windows 2k, BUT since XP mode's virtual PC Integration thing doesnt work with 2000 ( you dont get the folders, like you do with XP +). I wasnt going to re-download the updates again, since I've got them, and there's no way to get them in the VHD. I decided to reformat the other PC, install 2k on it then I'll update it, then do the same with RyanVM and Nlite. Then create the ISO, then I'll test it on here
