2010-06-10 04:19:00 | The 260 is the same price as the 5850, which is probably the best money/power card you can get if you're into gaming. Having said that, I bought a 5770 as it's cheaper. But if you're happy with ~$400, then that's the way to go %100.

2010-06-10 04:38:00 | Pcteks right, things change all the time, sometimes its finances available over wants that counts. OH BTW-- Pctek is a Mrs :D Yah, should've known from those beautiful eyes. I'm not so sure if the 'nVidia will be ahead in six months' argument holds true though, the Fermi cards haven't produced the goods yet especially in the mid range cards. P.S. The biggest snapper I've seen was caught on a thirty dollar reel. _____________ I'm trying to think but nothin' happens...Jerome 'Curly' Howard

2010-06-10 10:03:00 | You can get a normal 260GTX with 896MB of VRAM which should be sufficient in most cases for about the same price as your quoting for the 5770. | stormdragon (6013) | |
2010-06-10 22:52:00 | Ah but there's 6 months difference in their release dates. When the next top Nvidia is released it will win. 6 months later the top ATI comes out and wins. And so on. Occasionally there isn't much of an improvement (whichever) but usually there is. The newest nvidia card, the 480 is faster than ATI's fastest single GPU card (but slower than the dual GPU 5970). The 480 is only slightly faster than the 5870, but has higher power usage, temperature and noise.

2010-06-11 00:21:00 | At the moment ATI Radeon cards are clearly superior to the current nVidia products based on many reviews Hmm disagree here - sort of. Yeah, ATI have the fastest card going atm, in the 5970, and thats great. But the next-best, performance-wise, the nVidia's GTX480, followed closely by the 5870, then the GTX470... it's pretty much staggered with an ATI card then an nVidia card right down to the entry-level where it all just flattens out. So, which cards are "better" depend on which price and performance level you're after. If you're a high-end user happy to spend up to $800, but don't want to fork out another $200 for the 5970, then the GTX480 will be your go. If that's a bit much but $700-ish is fine, the 5870 is your friend. No, rather stick to $600? Then heres a GTX470. But hey, the GTX490 is rumoured to be close, and could switch up the performance order. Actually, it's quite hard to find any price point, until you get to the lower end / entry level, ATI and nVidia are directly competing atm - in the NZ market at least. Sure there are some matchups where performance is very similar (maybe 5% difference) but at different pricepoints (maybe 15% difference), then you can look at value as well. Both companies offer some pretty good products - and both have at times produced some garbage. But which you want to choose, and which is "better" for you, is going to come down to price more than anything.

2010-06-11 00:30:00 | The GTX 260 is the slightly faster card overall but doesn't have DX11 of course (like that matters atm), but is a VERY poor buy at $415 I would buy a ATI5850 around the $450-$500 mark that blows both those cards out of the water, and if you want cheap that 5770 is ok at that price. This is correct, however you didnt mention that the nV card has more memory for textures at high resolutions, so I would say if the LCD screen is 16x10 or below, the 5770 would be the better card...

The 480 is only slightly faster than the 5870, but has higher power usage, temperature and noise. The new drivers have pushed the gap to 20-25% better 480 over the 5870... |
