815836 2009-10-02 06:55:00 Sorry I should have been more complete. 3 months ago, I had to sign up for another 24 months to get a replacement modem... That's where the $199 come from. I complained to the customer service at that time - and naturally they did not mention that my plan will stop 3 months later.

I have called again today the customer service that I signed up on a 24 months on the basis that Go Large will continue. They have replied that according to the terms and conditions bla bla bla they do not have to guarantee that a plan will continue.

In short, I have just been screwed up !

You should read the terms and conditions and see if there's some sort of clause that lets you get out of the contract without a termination fee in the event that a forced plan change occurs that means you're worse off than you would have been on the old plan.

I had my router replaced once, they said nothing about a contract, just shipped me out a new router and a prepaid courier bag to return the old one in.

Did they say why you had to sign up for another 24 month plan? sounds like they did something dodgy...

815838 2009-10-02 08:20:00 Or give the modem back and tell them to shove it where the sun dun shine. And buy your own Speedy Gonzales (78)
815839 2009-10-02 08:25:00 So essentially what this means for Go Large customers is that Telecom will continue to supply you with the same service you currently receive but will charge you $10 more per month($20 if your tolls are not with telecom), increase the upload speed & call it Big Time.
For me this sux as i'm more than happy with the Go Large plan and wouldn't pay extra money for faster uploads if given the choice!

Yes, my previous router was out of warranty. In your case, you were probably within the warranty period.

815841 2009-10-04 07:48:00 I am on go Large and am generally content with it, as I live rural and I dont think the copper can handle much more thanit is now.
I got a letter from telecom saying they were going to change my plan below is my reply to them. I would be intersted in other peoples thoughts on this.

Telecom in there arrogance have decided I need a new plan called big time, it seems to me this is very similar to the plan I am presently on, called go large. The differences in the plan, such as upload speed and changed traffic management, do not affect or concern me. I live rural and the copper lines are probably struggling anyway. The main difference is a $10 a month hike in fees. I have also been offered a plan at the same price but with a 10 gig cap. A product I don’t want. I presently drive a 1994 Landrover I dont think LR would have the arrogance to take my old one from me and force me to buy a new one, and then tell me they are doing me a favour. I am perfectly happy with the plan I am on and am generally happy with Telecom. I stongly object to being told I have to chage to a plan that costs more, or to one with a cap.
I have not been asked or consulted, I have been told this is what will happen. I have been a Telecom customer for a long time and expect to be consulted about change not dictated to.
Bad form Telecom you need to do better if I treated my customers like this I would not be able to afford broadband.

Very angry and dissapointed

815842 2009-10-04 21:21:00 businesses are free to charge what they like. If customers don't like it they can leave. Telecom didn't sell you a product (like a land rover), they are selling you a service. If the power company you buy your power from hikes its prices, you can switch to another.

I'm still on Go Large and will be sad to see it go.

815843 2009-10-04 21:52:00 Telecom have been very kind to me since I changed providers. I am sure that on the whole we both feel very good about it, but probably me more often than them. That pleases me too. R2x1 (4628)
815844 2009-10-05 04:55:00 I received the letter also. Just changed to Explorer, same price, higher cap, can not see the problem. gradebdan (2186)

Warrenty periods are irrelevent for consumers, as you are protected by the consumer guarantees act. Therefore if it failed, and it didn't last a 'reasonable period of time', it should have been replaced at no cost to you. That is how you can get out of not paying the $199. Take them to the disputes tribunal if they disagree.
