Nothing: it's fiddling with the parts while it's running that's the problem. :horrified |

I see that SO often in our public share; yet when I find the folder (usually in the next folder over in root), no-one has ever moved it of course  |

| 815134 | 2009-09-29 20:07:00 | Mmm, Target. My husband hates it with a passion. Mainly cause they often have no idea themselves - like the anti-static thing. I don't use those silly little wrist bangles. Tell me - what is it connected to???? I have antistatic mats etc like Wainui. If out, I leave the PC plugged in, off and make sure I'm touching the case. I see they went on about AV - what about Antispyware? Not to mention I leave printed instructions as well as going over what they need to do themsleves with it from now on and how and how often. And they moaned that one guy wasn't going to do the retrieval there - so? I often take PCs away back home. If they want me to sit there at $75 an hour fine, otherwise I charge a flat fee instead and take it away if its going to take ages. And spyware does - I do try to run all scans at once but the one I did on the weekend took over 3 hours...........and then Windows was dmagaed and had to be repaired...... Only charged the guy an hour and a half for all the stuff I did. |

Actually had that yesterday - the person had transferred around 200 photos from the camera, and thought they went to My pictures -- NOPE - she didn't know the names, but did know the approx date within a week, so did a *.jpg search, selected by date -- and bingo - photos found. | wainuitech (129) | ||

| 815137 | 2009-09-29 20:28:00 | I remember the last time they tested PC techs, a few years back. A fault they setup was a 'seen once in 5 years' sort of fault. No wonder the techs couldnt trace the cause easily I would have thought a data recovery & virus/malware removable would have been a job NOT not do onsite in order to do it correctly. No.1 rule: dont try & recover to the same drive. Depends how important the data is I guess.Undelete utility may not find what she wants. Anti static strap isnt nessassary, just earth yourself out on the case. Regardless, You cant setup a true antistatic environment onsite with carpeted floors. |

| 815138 | 2009-09-29 20:33:00 | There are only two types of techs who don't use antistatic protection: Those who have zapped a computer, and those who have yet to, but will. Billy 8-{) You really need to read some tech doc's (from component manufactures) on how to setup antistatic environments & then decide if its practical. |

| 815139 | 2009-09-29 20:43:00 | I had a computer here some weeks ago. It had not been backed up for yonks so my task was to find all data and back the said data up. One of the complaints was that he could hear music tracks coming through the speakers when his daughter was using the computer but the tracks he was hearing weren't in My Music. Did a search for *.mp3 and found a sub folder under c:\windows\system32\xxxx which had close to 7000 mp3 files. Daughter had put them there so Dad would not know she had them. He had complained about data usage and said no one downloads anything. |
