| 1109076 | 2010-06-11 13:08:00 | Right, got rid of XP mode (and the KB). Thats why it kept saying virtual PC wasnt compatible. And Virtualbox. Since both dont load ISO's (so you can boot / do clean installs with an ISO), so I can see if it'll work (once I've slipstreamed updates then created the ISO). |

| 1109078 | 2010-06-11 13:24:00 | How do you unblock it so it'll install then?? Or is it because KB958559 (the virtual PC file for XP mode) was installed? Even tho, I had uninstalled XP mode . If I uninstall this KB virtual PC will install then? Well, I do, because you need VHD files for XP mode (which I dont have . I'm testing ISO's after I've slipstreamed the updates etc) . Thats probably why virtual PC was blocked (the above KB was installed)? I've got the virtual PC 2007 SP1 x64 install file I found that out  I know virtual PC works, because I was using it to test ISO's in Vista x64 . I know whats on the ISO, BUT I want to boot from it, (do a clean install) . But you cant boot from an ISO image within a VM, so it'll do a clean install can you? XP Mode VHD runs inside Windows Virtual PC If you don't want to download the XP VHD you can still use Windows Virtual PC and use it to boot off an ISO Personally on Windows 7 I would be using Windows Virtual PC instead of Virtual PC 2007 |

| 1109079 | 2010-06-11 13:39:00 | I had the XP VHD. And I was using XP mode, without KB977206, (because it wouldnt install, probably because this CPU supports VT). BUT, thats not the prob. It DOESN'T work with ISO's (If I selected Virtual PC from the menu (belonging to XP mode, only VHD's, which I DON'T have). I'm testing different ISO's after slipstreaming updates, for different versions of windows. What I was trying to do, was install XP mode, then install a separate VM program (but I couldn't find another VM program that'll let you add ISO's, (so you can do clean installs), to test them. And I / you cant install Virtual PC 2007, if I install XP Mode / and its version of Virtual PC. I would use Windows Virtual PC (if it did the above / would let me boot / do clean installs with the ISO's I've created), but it doesnt. Both may let you mount ISO's (but I couldnt see the option in XP Mode's version). You maybe able to mount an ISO within XP Mode, BUT can you do a clean install (using the ISO). Once you mount it?? Thats WHAT I want to do |

Yes you can do that with Windows Virtual PC and with Virtual PC 2007 |

| 1109081 | 2010-06-11 14:28:00 | did you create the ISO yourself? If the VM is not booting off the ISO, chances are you haven't created the ISO image properly |

| 1109083 | 2010-06-11 14:37:00 | if you want to convince yourself, take Virtualisation software out of the equation take the ISO image you built, write it out to a physical CD/DVD and get your PC to try to boot of it I bet it is unbootable |

If the VM is not booting off the ISO, chances are you haven't created the ISO image properly Yep, I did create the ISO, (it IS bootable), it works with Virtual PC 2007 SP1. (I can create a new VM, add the ram, then click on start, then add the ISO I created, reset it then boot from the ISO), to see if the files I've SS'ed worked. And the XP ISO I did the other day did work. Its got all versions of .net (1.1,2,3 and 4 and their updates), all the DX updates inc the June 2010 update, all windows updates inc June 2010's updates. All the WMP and IE8's updates. Install it there's nothing else to install. But there's no option to boot from an ISO in XP Mode's version - If there is where is it? |

Yes you can do that with Windows Virtual PC and with Virtual PC 2007 I know you can do it, with Virtual PC 2007 SP1, thats how I did it. But I cant see how to do it in XP mode's version. Since if you select Virtual PC from the menu it takes you to the folder the XP VHD is in, try and add another VM, it asks for a VHD file |
