815477 2009-10-02 18:52:00 I can't see what all the excitement is about, it is just another social networking site with a few enhancements.

It may be useful for communicating ideas between people working together towards a solution but otherwise for general communication there are plenty of options already available that do the same thing a lot easier and more securely.

I agree. But I'm just curious.

815479 2009-10-03 00:27:00 Well the idea is to kill email through this. So I guess it's big deal.

I'm not the biggest fan of google and their policies (such as the original EULA of Chrome) but, they seem to being doing everything right.
They took more users than opera ever have in what a day?
Gmail has more subscriptions than Hotmail & Yahoo.
They entered the Office's turf with google docs, and soon they will have as many regular users than OpenOffice.
Google caches everything, twice as long as other search engine, I believe.

Google Chrome OS, Android... The list is pretty much endless..

Orkut was a failure (their ownly significant failure?) compared to the likes of Facebook. And I humbly believe this will obliterate Facebook. They learned their lessons and will do it bigger and better than ever.

I'd love an invite.

815480 2009-10-03 00:46:00 I won't be moving to google docs any time soon and I sure your average Joe won't either I prefer to have my data actually on my own computer rather than someone else's server gary67 (56)
815481 2009-10-03 00:57:00 I can't see what all the excitement is about, it is just another social networking site with a few enhancements. It's not a social networking site at all - it doesn't compete with Facebook etc. In fact, Wave isn't even a website - it's a new protocol built on top of XMPP. This Google thing everyone is interested in is their web-based client for it - it's essentially Wave's GMail equivalent.

It may be useful for communicating ideas between people working together towards a solution...The whole idea of it is collaboration. It's a big mashup of email, wikis, IM, realtime collaborative editing, and a few other things all rolled into one protocol.
...but otherwise for general communication there are plenty of options already available that do the same thing a lot easier and more securely.Feel like listing a few? Last time I looked, XMPP over SSL was one of the easiest and most secure methods of communication available.

Well in that case average Joe can either fork out a few hundred for office or steal.

Most would prefer a free option.
