814575 2009-09-29 06:59:00 I never quite got around to hooking up VFX for myself, has it been sweet?

Sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter. The features like redirect, voicemail, call waiting - at no extra cost - are good, and the VFXPortal to configure all this is nice. Call quality is okay, but I've had the occasional issues with quality being affected when doing some heavy downloading. The downsides, though, are the frequent drop outs, which takes the phone down. It's not uncommon for me to come home from work two or three times a day and find the router down, and the phone isn't working. Not exactly the reliability I preached to the wife when we got it setup.

Thanks for the suggestion Chill, I'll give 2Talk a look-see.

814578 2009-09-30 01:12:00 Lizard: I found in-call quality with Xnet fluctuated a lot also, through no fault of my own.

Enabling QoS on a router running Tomato can go a long way. Having a *good* router also helps avoid disconnections. The el-cheapo RTA1320 Dynalinks that Orcon give away suck, overheat far too much, especially when doing VoIP + other things.
Whats your SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) on your connect? That can also affect dropouts.
Lastly, if you can, make sure you switch to an ADSL2+ connection with your ISP.

814580 2009-10-01 01:13:00 SNR is good, means you shouldn't have line interference causing disconnections...
Anything over 6 is good (is the 'standard' most ISP's go by)

Move to gmail. Most ISP email services tend to suck thesedays for example "Xtra Bubble/Yahoo" junk :xmouth: It also leaves you the freedom of changing ISP's and not loosing your email address.
