814459 2009-09-27 23:54:00 If Mr Gates can make an AV program as good as or better than AVG I will give it a whirl.
Had no luck with Avast gave me huge problems. One snag with AVG is when its its doing its morning scan it slows things down a bit.
It seems cool to be a Norton and Microsoft hater here never struck anywhere else must be something in the water.
Chilling is right the router should be a good enough firewall. I go to a lot of sites lovely people like you wouldnt and I havent had a prob yet.

814460 2009-09-28 00:07:00 Hi Prefect... can I ask what sort of problems Avast brought you? I've used it for some time on Vista Home Premium and IE8 and it seems fairly docile. Am I missing something? Scouse (83)
814461 2009-09-28 00:08:00 It kept getting false positives then crashed and took out my whole os. prefect (6291)
814462 2009-09-28 00:09:00 Might chuck the Beta on a customers copied drive / Infected PC - lets see what happens. wainuitech (129)
814463 2009-09-28 00:52:00 "Which is quite impressive if you look at the fact that it detected and removed a Trojan downloader that NOD32 even failed to detect in the first place."

Good idea Wainui - the only way to test it really, get a real utterly infested one and try it out.......I'd do it but you'll have one before I do.

814465 2009-09-28 02:13:00 Velllly Interesting

Just did a scan on the data from a "damged PC" the original drive has nod32 - but in its defence, the owners kept turning off the anti virus & antispyware because it kept stopping the casino games from installing, (well Durhhh :waughh:) then they would reboot later and it would turn back on again.

Nod32 did stop it originally As shown (www.imagef1.net.nz) - BUT then the AV was disabled and the program retried.

MS - AV may just be onto a good thing -- Move over, or more like bye bye AVG.

MS/AV doesn't appear to slow down the PC at all, runs nice the MS result (www.imagef1.net.nz) on the same drive. Took approx 1 hour to scan the whole drive - 72GB.

When you install the Beta - after the first update of sig's it pops up saying there is an upgraded version available. Its interface is easy to use, and its default settings aren't to bad. light foot print to download, around 4 MB.

Time will tell, but for a free product it aint to bad.

That was only a basic test, as Pctek said - a completely infested drive will soon tell.

most of the reviews i have seen say its the best thing ever...

I look foward to a review from a local tech, not a news source in the pocket of M$.

it may be a good product, but it needs to make a name for itself in the real world.
