1110378 2010-06-15 08:49:00 Mate, trying to virtualise a physical pc, however all convertors use the VSS snapshot to capture the volume...this old XP home pc writers are dead in the water...8x0000ffff i believe is the error! SolMiester (139)
1110379 2010-06-15 10:11:00 Is this file for XP Home?? If it is, its not part of XP. Even if you add it, it probably wont know its there, or use it Speedy Gonzales (78)

1110381 2010-06-15 21:10:00 Does VMWare's vCentre Converter require VSS?? Maybe v4 does, try to get a hold of v3.x, as it supports NT4 and, as far as I'm aware, doesn't require VSS.

Thats a very good point....NT4 doesnt have VSS!....Hmmmm. Anyway, yes hot migration uses MS Shadow copy...wonder how it does NT4?....
I did find the file and it did register correctly, but didnt resolve the issue.
One of our member firms is an enterprise customer of VMWare so will try to get Converter Boot CD and do the migration cold.....

inphinity- will have a look at converter v3, but as it also support XP and 2000, I imagine it will say, oh, VSS, lets use that instead of whatever it uses for NT4...LOL

edit - from VMware website re: V3

Provides for live P2V conversions without requiring any downtime on the source physical machine. Involves installation of an agent for taking a live snapshot of the source system. (Windows NT and Windows 2000 sources will require a reboot prior to a live conversion).

I imagine it must install its own shadow copy solution!
