2010-06-14 00:06:00 | Hi everyone, Have a strange situation where, using Thunderbird 3 . 0 . 4 I can receive emails just fine but cannot send them . :badpc: I have spoken at length with Slingshot help desk who basically went through all the server settings and confirmed they were all correct and beyond that had nothing to suggest . They added that they do not support Tbird! I then tried it using Outlook, same result . Spoke with Slingshot again and had no further luck there . I have disabled Bulldog Internet Security, disabled Windows firewall and made sure that both Outlook and TBird are on the approved list of programmes in each . No other AV or firewall running . I am using Win7 home premium 64bit . . Any and all ideas and suggestions welcome . Cheers KP

2010-06-14 00:12:00 | if you are using Slingshot's smtp server you are connected to Slingshot internet right now? if you are trying to send a non Slingshot email using that smtp server while you are connected to Slingshot. it won't work cos they may block it. eg. I am with Actrix. I send my Clear Net email using Actrix's smtp server cos Clear Net blocks it cos I am not using a "live" Clear Net connection. Actrix email works fine when I am with Actrix connection thou. maybe try again later in the day .. these things happen...... did your current settings use to work?

2010-06-14 00:57:00 | Have a strange situation where, using Thunderbird 3 . 0 . 4 I can receive emails just fine but cannot send them . :badpc: KP For Incoming mail server (POP3): pop3 . slingshot . co . nz For Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp . slingshot . co . nz With Thunderbird, it wants your password twice - once for incoming, and once for outgoing? Tried re-entering them? ANd test it by sending an email to yourself, faster way to test .

2010-06-14 01:12:00 | Pays to have a secondary email, e.g. Gmail or something... | kahawai chaser (3545) | |
2010-06-14 01:38:00 | Maybe try security/authentication server settings changes, to see if that helps. | kahawai chaser (3545) | |
2010-06-14 01:52:00 | Yes, this is a recent problem. Have been using Tbird and Slingshot happily for years. The exact error message is : Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.slingshot.co.nz timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator. Re the security thing, it did not ask for password other than when first setting it up and the Slingshot server does not use secure authentication or connection security. Did test by sending an email to myself, and got the error as above Thanks KP

2010-06-14 01:55:00 | Thinking now changing to a different ISP entirely as I am so frustrated. Rather not have a secondary email. I email a lot of documents and like the ability of being able to email directly from Word. As a workaround I have been logging onto Slingshot Webmail but this is cumbersome and slow. KP
