1109454 2010-06-12 04:58:00 Hi

I'm using a Toshiba A300 laptop with Win Vista SP. I'm trying to set up a bluetooth connection with my Dell Axim handheld computer. I've enabled bluetooth in the Axim and made it discoverable. On the Toshiba I've gone Control Panel>Bluetooth Devices and clicked the Bluetooth Settings tab. I've checked all four tick boxes including the Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer. However, when I click “Apply” a message box pops up with the title “Bluetooth Service Error” and the message “An error occurred while windows was saving your settings. The Bluetooth device might be unplugged. The following settings were not saved:
Discoverability Settings
Connection Settings.”

After pressing OK the Bluetooth icon does not appear in the notification area even though that box was not ticked as well. When I go back to the Bluetooth settings tab the discoverablility box is unchecked.

Back in Control Panel, underneath Bluetooth Devices there is an option that says Bluetooth Local Com. When I open it it tells me it's searching for Bluetooth HID devices which it doesn't find and eventually I get to a box displaying all the Com Port but the title bar is telling me that Bluetooth Local Com is not responding.

Can anyone explain what is going on?

Thanks

1109455 2010-06-12 05:04:00 Is it up to date with SP 1 and 2? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1109456 2010-06-12 05:48:00 Hi Speedy

All "Important" Windows updates have been applied as well as two optional ones for a couple of the elements listed in device manager for Toshiba Bluetooth. I've got service pack one installed but not SP 2. When I expand "Bluetooth" in Device Manager and look at the properties of each of the five elements displayed it tells me that the device is working properly. When I did that the first time the fifth on - Bluetooth USB Controller from Toshiba - Had a Disabled button displayed so I re-enabled it and it now says it is working properly.

1109457 2010-06-12 06:24:00 Hi again Speedy

Iwas thinking a) should I update the drivers for the five elements under "Bluetooth" in device manager? If so do I have to uninstall the old drivers first? and b) isn't there some sort of routine you can run from the cmd prompt that looks for things that are wrong and tries to fix them?

Thanks

1109458 2010-06-12 06:59:00 I would install SP2, you shouldnt have to uninstall the old drivers. If theres an update it'll just update them Speedy Gonzales (78)
1109459 2010-06-13 04:34:00 Hi Speedy

I tried updating the Bluetooth drivers but they were all up to date. As far as SP 2 is concerned, according to the MS website it's about a 350Gb download which with my Internet connection is going to take hours!. I've almost reached my data cap for this month and don't want to go over so it will have to wait till next Sunday when the new one kicks in. SP 2 used to appear in automatic updates where it said I only needed to download 43 megs but has since disappeared - if I try to install it over the Net from the microsoft site will it look at my computer and just give me the bits I need?
