816975 2009-10-05 01:48:00 Just bought a denon home theatre receiver off trade me all works well (well was working well) The radio works fine but the digital inputs such as the optical input and the coax input are not working with my dvd recorder or my sky hdi.

I plugged them in this morning and the digital read out on the amp lit up saying digital now nothing lits up and no sound comes out from either device plugged into those inputs. The rca inputs still work but they are analog.
Any idea what im doing wrong or is the digital input fried.

816976 2009-10-05 03:24:00 Usually for the digital inputs you have to assign it to the receiver setting (DVD, Aux, VCR etc) you want to have the audio playing on.

Eg: if you have the coax digital input from your DVD player connected to the coax input then you need to tell the receiver to use the coax digital input when it is on the DVD setting otherwise it will use the analogue audio DVD inputs.

Have tried all that i have even got two optical inputs plugged into the back of the amp and no digital signal display lites up so im guessing the whole digital side of it is fried to buggery

have been trying all day to get it to work but nothing so am using rca inputs at the moment sounds lke crap in rca sound.

816979 2009-10-08 07:57:00 If you need it fixed there is a place next door to my work (ST Heliers) that repairs TV's etc etc. He gets quite a lot of Denon stuff for repair. Phil B (648)
816980 2009-10-08 10:01:00 Hi thanks for the suggestion but i live in chch and the amp is under a 3 month warranty so i have to send it to auckland where i got it from.
I managed to get the digital input side working on wednesday night but it only went for ten minutes then gave up, So i did a multiprocessor reset and that got the digital back again but when i turn the power off at the amp the digital signal fails to light again so i will be sending it back next week, Im really gutted cause i have never had a problem with any other denon amp iv'e had before.

816982 2009-10-09 07:25:00 I'd think twice about them now, especially after seeing what goes through his workshop. Phil B (648)
816983 2009-10-09 08:52:00 It's a display model it was greatly reduced in price and is lees than a year old hence the 3 month warranty remaining on it.

Well i managed to get the digital sound going and is up and running properly now not sure what caused it to stop but it works i still get a bit of intermittent crackling sounds just wee bits now and then then it goes away and sometimes the sound will stop and i will have to push the surround button to a different mode and then the sound will come back again.

816984 2009-10-09 08:59:00 I'd send it in pdq if I were you. When you get it back it'll give you time to run it & make sure it's ok before the warranty expires Phil B (648)
