Kiwis pronounce plant as pl-aunt, americans pl-ant

816662 2009-10-03 22:29:00 As an immigrant the kiwi accent is probably the easiest of the English speaking languages to understand, much easier than American, Canadian, Australi whinge and anywhere North of London in England gary67 (56)
816663 2009-10-03 22:29:00 The accent is no problem, it is fairly pure. I believe it has been quoted as next to BBC English.

What I have a problem with is the "CroakyVoice" that is in vogue at the moment, usually by young females. Almost unintelligable(spelling?). Where did that sound come from? The sooner it goes the better. PJ

816665 2009-10-03 22:47:00 It is only other people that have accents........................:clap

Edit: when we first arrived here 32 years ago, my wife asked for six eggs at the dairy over the road, she was given a packet of Zig Zag cigarette papers.

Edit: poppa john, the croaky voice as you call it amongst young girls seems to be world wide, well amongst Americans and Australians and even the British seem to be doing it

816666 2009-10-03 22:55:00 Some accents are truly beautiful. The Welsh one would be tops. Course I am biased being half Welsh & having lived there. Some of the West Country, same. Some of the Irish & Scottish as well. PJ Poppa John (284)
816667 2009-10-03 23:16:00 The one the grates me like finger nails down a blackboard is the that NZ girl accent like when they call out at the supermarket price check on ...............

816668 2009-10-03 23:18:00 When I was waiting in a queue at Disneyland with my then young daughter, a group of American girls asked us where we were from. We replied simply, "New Zealand." Apparently we were meant to say more as one of them said, "Don't stop talking - we love your accent." "Not difficult to understand?" I asked. "No," they chorused, "Just keep talking, we love it."
