816560 2009-10-03 20:05:00 And are you going to upgrade or clean install? Also what version? Premium, Professional or Scribe. xyz823 (13649)
816561 2009-10-03 20:12:00 Already using W7 RTM - using Premium, Professional, Ultimate on several PC's.

Doing a clean install will be much better, as it has been reported it can take anywhere from 3 -20 hours to upgrade, as shown In these charts (www.winmatrix.com), esp if going from Vista -W7. A Lot will also depend on the PC.

816563 2009-10-03 20:28:00 I will go to Win 7 on a permanent basis when, or if, I feel the need for it.

Currently I use WinXP Pro 64 bit and the O/S runs all the applications I need at this time.

In the event I did change I would buy Win7 Ultimate and do a clean install.

816564 2009-10-03 20:32:00 Thinking about upgrading from Vista Ultimate 32bit to Win7 Pro 64bit. Would not bother with the "Ultimate" version - there's been bugger all bonus having that version with Vista... johcar (6283)
816565 2009-10-03 20:36:00 Ordered a copy of Home premium yesterday from Ascent and will be doing a clean install on a new comp I built that's currently got the RC version on it, am going 64bit as have been able to get it talking to my print server which was my main concern. I like what I have used of it so far gary67 (56)
816566 2009-10-03 20:40:00 So what MAJOR differences are there between Premium and Professional? xyz823 (13649)
816567 2009-10-03 20:41:00 Any idea on prices? the only thing I can find is here at ascent.co.nz
www.ascent.co.nz Those prices on Ascent will be about right - there will be a few places that may be slightly different ( as in lower) and there will be others higher.

Looking on My vendors / suppliers sites, their pricing varies from place to place.

816568 2009-10-03 20:42:00 Can I buy an OEM version from Ascent and use it? Or is this limited to manufacturers/suppliers? johcar (6283)
816569 2009-10-03 20:43:00 Dont worry I found it after a 10sec google lol.

windows.microsoft.com

So XP mode is the main difference. If I really do need it (which I most probably dont) I can just run it in a virtual machine. Oh and the backup system, which I dont need or want to use.
