816021 2009-10-02 01:25:00 Grafton bridge in Auckland is opening on Monday but private vehicle's can't use it during daylight hours even though it cost Aucklanders $6.9 million:

www.nzherald.co.nz

The council made this decision because they talked to people who reside in the area. The thing is, people who live in Grey Lynn pay rates to the Auckland city council and they use grafton bridge too, so why don't they get a say?

The bridge should be open to all Aucklanders including private vehicles 24/7, like it was before the upgrade.

Is that it? It does seem like a useful bridge to have operational, but we shouldn't be paying for it, get all the rich Asians that live in jafaland to pay for it. :2cents:

And I have to pay for yours - and I may never use them.

People forget that "Tax is never used for the direct benefit of the taxed".

Tax, as much as everyone hates paying it, in whatever form, is supposed to benefit society as a whole, not a specific group. A little bit like paying subs for a club you belong to...

816027 2009-10-02 02:17:00 So why does Auckland keep getting new roads and the Nelson region that needs roads up grading such as the Wangamoa's so that you can all come and visit us without getting car sick or shaken to bits. And arrive safely can't get them done gary67 (56)
816028 2009-10-02 03:22:00 'cos we're special. :D johcar (6283)
816029 2009-10-02 03:27:00 We need the roads to be open 24/7 because we have quite a few people using them, and 24hrs is a fairly standard unit of time to go any distance, although it seems to take longer in the "Rush" hour. R2x1 (4628)
