816546 2009-10-08 10:47:00 Same computer and modem etc., but using Win7 (www.speedtest.net). Obviously they haven't got the lumps out of it yet ;) R2x1 (4628)
816547 2009-10-08 18:19:00 Switched to Big Time (www.speedtest.net) before the school holidays started. This is probably one of the quickest tests results I've had but they usually sit between 9 - 13Mb/s sam m (517)
816548 2009-10-08 19:39:00 Is upload on ADSL2+ usually that slow? Even some of the better speedtests from people seem to have abysmal upload speeds. somebody (208)
816549 2009-10-08 20:48:00 Telstraclear cable? But then again, you'll be paying for it. Their warpspeed seems okay, not that I can afford it (I'm on their 10 gig plan)

I could get that except for one slight snag, although the box just outside my door has a Telstra connection, because there is no in-house wiring for cable, Telstra said they couldn't connect me.

When I said I would pay them to install the necessary cable they replied that they didn't do that for residential customers, so I then asked them if I got an electrician around (*cough* put it in myself) to put in the appropriate wiring would they then come and connect me - and they replied that they didn't touch wiring installed by others... :annoyed:

So after going round in that circle several times I told them what idiots they where and told them they just lost a potential customer - not that they probably care but I'm still annoyed anyway.

Are you in an apartment complex?

TelstraClear normally does free installs for residential customers, so long as they can physically get access from the power pole to your house. We were connected a few years ago, and a TelstraClear tech came around and ran the cable to where we wanted it in the house, and set up the modem.

No, just in a 'normal' house .

The power pole is almost within arms reach of the upstairs decking too, kinda annoying seeing the cable so close yet not able to have :crying

Does the house has a timber floor or concrete floor? Maybe they're unwilling to do it because they can't get underneath to run the cable.

It sounds strange that they're not willing to connect you, as the installation sounds simple.

816553 2009-10-08 22:03:00 Run an ethernet cable from the neighbors and go halves. :p wratterus (105)
816554 2009-10-09 00:14:00 Concrete floor, though the downstairs area is just a garage so no need to run it under the floor, just some capping over the cable and run it along the top of the wall until under the appropriate room then drillziller up the floor and bingo - I can haz cable?

Apparently not :waughh:

You might want to get someone else in your household to ring them and pose as a new tenant/owner, and see what happens .
