816601 2009-10-04 03:43:00 Yes 7 is really just Vista as it should have been.
But I'll still get it as soon as I can afford it.

816602 2009-10-04 07:52:00  Nice try,:p, IF a place says you have to buy hardware- it was written something along the lines of, you had to buy hardware a computer would not run without. (now its changed to what I posted previously)

I'll install the OS on the flash drive. :D

PHUCK 6.8!?! My Vista lappy only gets an abysmal 4.6.

Vista only goes up to 5.9. ;)

816603 2009-10-04 09:05:00 I intend to get Windows 7 Professional edition (the one in-between Home Premium and Ultimate) when I can afford to get it and new hard drives. I've been using Windows 7 RC for the past few months and really enjoy using it over Windows XP now. xmojo1 (4630)
816604 2009-10-04 09:35:00 IMO Ultimate isn't worth it unless Bitlocker, Applocker etc is a necessity, and TrueCrypt would be a viable alternative.. Blam (54)
816605 2009-10-04 09:47:00 I think Ultimate is STILL a rip-off. Professional offers 90% of Ultimate's features for $100 less... go figure! jwil1 (65)

Have you used the workaround for installing Win 7 to XP system machine? It seems from this Url

www.vista123.net
which is much as you say, and to be very easy and avoids all the hassle?

Thanks.

816607 2009-10-06 07:42:00 I was going to get it on Day 1 but still thinking about what hardware I might refresh first, usually upgrade a few things every time I get a new O/S. Certainly time for another hard drive but maybe a motherboard/ram/cpu upgrade as well.

Then again, it will run very well on what I have now as Vista has dome for a few years now.

So wonder if you'll be able to upgrade your vista that was an upgrade from XP.

Why not? It's still Vista. ;)

816609 2009-10-06 19:58:00 You can, but upgrades can take a *horribly* long time, like HOURS and hours, compared with <20 minutes for a clean install. If your drives already NTFS then it'll just happily install and keep your files, putting the Program Files, Users, Documents and Settings, and Windows directory into a folder called Windows.old so that you can get to everything later post-Win7 install :) Chilling_Silence (9)
