2009-10-05 06:05:00 | Thanks for the reply Beetle. Still does not explain to me why the gas (power) bill is around $400 a month though. Get meters checked or something like that. Also check the hot water cylinder for leaks and temperatures.

2009-10-05 07:09:00 | Ok............ my understanding is.................. the gas is bottled and she has 2 tanks..... which are very large, they cost about $127.00 each to fill? and she can go through a tank in 7- 10 days if she uses them alot. so thats at least 3 bottles a month. ( and my mum is frugal, and not as mobile as she was, and will sit with blankets on her while heater is going) In the past we have battled with the pot belly fire, they kept it stoked real well, and we cooked - the sweat just poured off us......... we always overheated, and mum and dad loved the warmth. She has to ring the company to come and change them, im not sure if she gets charged for the changover or travel ( 10 mins out of town). the fire needs power and gas, once its going it has a fan to circulate the air, and it has 2 fan settings, high or low. (or off) and the heat settings have 2 settings high or low. so yeah......... it does cost, but im not sure of exact amounts. and then she has power costs on top of that. beetle

2009-10-05 07:22:00 | Thanks for that. Tomorrow I will walk down the road from where I live as I had noticed in the past two Gas bottles and I will take pictures thereof. I suspect they would be the same size maybe. If the people are home I will ask as to what they cost to refill and what the usage is for the household if they want to give me the information. I do note that there is a gas supplier some ten minutes away by truck.

2009-10-05 09:56:00 | LPG price for a 45kg bottle varies, depending on the contract you have signed up on. I own my bottle and take it to the LPG station myself. The cost all up is $116.65. If they picked the bottle up, filled and returned, it would cost $12.50 extra. This is in Blenheim. It pays to ring around and compare prices. | BobM (1138) | |
2009-10-06 05:00:00 | Mum owns her own bottles, and apparently a fill costs $103.00 and then the rest is travel etc. ( i got the initial price wrong). and since she is 77 years old, and no longer drives, and lives 10 mins out of town it is easier for her to ring and say bottles please, and i dont know how many companys do this, but its all in motion and if we changed things it would cause stress to my mother. at the moment change isnt ideal. keeping things the same and simple is good. beetle :)
