| 816580 | 2009-10-03 22:29:00 | Just installed Win 7 Enterprise 64bit last night. Clean install from XP Pro. So far loving it. Got Virtual PC working, trying to setup XP mode. Gota do the dishes first . Also need to install .Net Framework. The win 7 version for that is a 1.4GB download. mmmmmmm. My HDD is letting me down on the ratings .. its only a Sata 2 Seagate. | ronyville (10611) | ||
| 816581 | 2009-10-03 22:46:00 | Xp does everything I need at the moment so why change. I realise that it will eventually become unsupported. If MS were to supply a free copy then I would. I Understand that to "Upgrade" Means loading W7 on top of XP. But... Does a clean install mean that you have to wipe the HD, reformat HD & then install W7.? That would mean that all other data would have to be installed again. Yes? One more Q...Can a single copy of W7 be used on two computers on a nework & the same broadband? PJ |

While XP users are eligible for an upgrade copy, they have to do a clean install. Vista was the same - XP users could upgrade, and Windows 2000 users were eligible but had to do a clean install. Does a clean install mean that you have to wipe the HD, reformat HD & then install W7.? That would mean that all other data would have to be installed again. Yes? PJ Yes. |

PJ YES! Thats why I always keep my data separate from the operating system. Clean install while format the HD or the partition that you want to install the OS on. Than you will have to reinstall all you software. I only upgraded to Win 7 cos my XP Pro crashed and since I had a legit Win 7 copy, I thought might as well give this a try. |

Does that mean you would partition the drive, C & D & put the os on, sat, D. All other stuff would then naturally go to C? PJ |

| 816585 | 2009-10-03 23:09:00 | I'll just buy a cheap flash drive with Windows 7 :D  Nice try,:p, IF a place says you have to buy hardware- it was written something along the lines of, you had to buy hardware a computer would not run without. (now its changed to what I posted previously) This was basically a Motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU or HDD. Anything else a PC will run without - you couldn't do much with out some of the other items, but it will run. |

| 816586 | 2009-10-03 23:12:00 | Hey Rony - what Graphic Card Do you have in that PC to produce the 6.8 score ? The reason for asking is I dont think the windows score is very accurate - Just finished building a PC for a Guy, installed the same OS W7 Enterprise, with an Asus ENGTX 285 - it only showed up as 5.9, with Windows own Drivers and even after driver updates from Nvidia. The CPU which is an i5 750 2.26 shows up as 7.2 |

Nvidia Geforce 9600GT... did you refresh the ratings after you installed the Nvidia drivers? Also have you installed the .net framework? I need to install that but not sure which one. Did you download the 1.4GB iso file form the MS site for the 64bit win 7? |

| 816588 | 2009-10-03 23:36:00 | I will eventually be doing a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64bit to replace the current 32bit XP. But not straight away it's out - I'll wait for price movements..... |

| 816589 | 2009-10-03 23:43:00 | So far it appears that waiting for the SP set is not quite as necessary as the last few M$ offerings that by and large belly flopped onto the wharf on release; at least Win7 seems likely to hit the water. What was the last one to do that? |
