1110186 2010-06-14 09:24:00 Damn, $3000!!!?!?!? You can build a real mean machine with that sort of budget! Renmoo (66)
1110187 2010-06-14 09:25:00 Where is this PC from? sk69ersnz (13476)
1110188 2010-06-14 09:27:00 Its a fairly generic specification description, most Retails can give you a price and more specific branding information. Computer Lounge does all of that.

I would always advise getting two quotes.

yea lower video card no mon or OS, prob a bit tight to squeeze in a I7 under 3K and the I5 certainly wont be a bottleneck the 5870 anyway.

1110192 2010-06-14 10:43:00 You can put a nice package together with their combos.

i5 Combo (Good Mobo, i5 750 and 4GB RAM) $759
Case+PSU Combo (Antec 902 +Corsair 650) $399
5850 (because unless you're going 30", 5870 is probably overkill) $519
1TB HDD $125
80GB SSD $419
DVD Writer ~$50

$2271. You could get rid of the SSD if you wanted.

Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, OS and shipping will take you to $3000.
OS wise, I'd just go Windows 7 64bit home premium

Computerlounge might be able to do something with price if you're going to spend $3k. Make them work for it.
Just me though.

.
Or bump the GPU UP, he has the money, why skimp on that, as GPU is so important.

1110194 2010-06-14 21:01:00 That sounds pretty good, would that be built, tested and shipped to Dunedin?

Yes free postage (courier) overnight to anywhere in NZ, rural areas may take longer.

If you need warranty you need to courier back to Auckland (at your cost).

But $3,000 for a PC, I could get some of the thinnest executive laptops with that. For a PC surely 2k is more than enof.

I rather allocate some funds for a trip to Europe :p

With proper elaborate watercooling, 980X i7 and all the premium parts you could easily go over $9000 . . . . . even $12000 if you're having two of those 6-core Intels!
