2010-06-13 02:45:00 | I keep getting this error on certain websites in Firefox. Most websites seem to work fine such as Facebook, but if I go to YouTube or another forum that I frequent, this error occurs. Sometimes, the pages that don't work will work if I refresh a couple of times, but eventually they will stop working again as I click on further links. The error occurs for the same websites in IE. When I tried to diagnose the problem in IE, it initially said that there was a "TCP setting not compatible with my router" (my router is a DSL-502T). When I clicked to repair the problem, the problem still remained. When I tried to diagnose the problem once more, IE recommended that I enable "TCP enhancing" (or something like that, I forgot the exact phrase/terminology used). Again the problem persists for the same websites and the diagnosis seems to just alternate between the two things I listed. This problem seems to have started last night. I have no idea if it is at all related, but I visited a website for live online commentary for a world cup match and the problem seems to have started then. Not sure if it is a coincidence or perhaps the origin of the problem. I appreciate any help you guys can provide and please let me know any additional details you require.

2010-06-13 03:24:00 | Yeah, I saw that website when I tried googling my problem to find some answers. Unfortunately it wasn't very helpful in terms of actually outlining any solutions. According to the website, there must be something blocking Firefox from loading the pages I want. I am only running windows firewall and AVG and as far as I know, no changes have been made to their settings. Just in case though, how would I go about checking if certain websites have been blocked by these programs? Also, does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be causing this, if not any security programs?

2010-06-13 03:25:00 | Its either a firewire or proxy. Are any programs using a proxy? Maybe the sites that dont work are down? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-06-13 03:34:00 | Its either a firewire or proxy. Are any programs using a proxy? Maybe the sites that dont work are down? The sites that don't work are definitely up. Sorry I'm a noob, don't know what a proxy is... I'm running a full AVG scan right now just to be sure, and I found this website: kb.mozillazine.org with a lot of troubleshooting so I will be trying some of those and reporting back. In the meantime, if anyone has any ideas as to the cause of this please chuck them at me.

2010-06-13 03:57:00 | Well, I tried a few of the troubleshooting steps in that website from my previous post, but still no luck. I can't really tell you guys everything I tried from there because now that site isn't loading anymore as well! Anyways to summarise my problem: Most websites are working, but some in particular come up with the error message in the topic title. The same websites don't work in both Firefox and IE. EDIT: Also, the websites that don't work sometimes start working again temporarily and then stop soon after, in both FF and IE. I only have Windows Firewall and AVG and as far as I know, no changes have been made to these programs. A full system scan with AVG has come back clean. This problem started last night, apparently out of the blue, whilst I was surfing the web.

2010-06-13 04:49:00 | Also tried right-clicking on the internet icon in the bottom right and running "Diagnose and Repair" (Windows Network Diagnostics). I got the following mesage: "Windows has confirmed that this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem." [Windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically. Contact your internet service provider or network administrator for help or click here for information about things you can try to help resolve the problem.] I clicked but the info was pretty much useless.

2010-06-13 04:58:00 | Perhaps your modem is dropping the connection intermittently? (Noisy phone line? Bad filter/s) Or try doing a winsockfix (www.google.co.nz). Network/LAN drivers corrupted? LAN Adapter/port/motherboard problem?

2010-06-13 05:07:00 | Perhaps your modem is dropping the connection intermittently? Or try doing a winsockfix (www.google.co.nz). Network/LAN drivers corrupted? LAN Adapter/port/motherboard problem? I don't think its the modem dropping intermittently, because for the websites that DO work, it never drops. I also don't think its hardware related. My connection is still working overall and is running at its usual speed. That program you recommended, it says its for XP but I'm running Vista. Still safe to use? I had already previously rebooted the modem (I turn it off every night with the PC) and no change from last night when the problem started. Unfortunately, I don't own any other modems to try out. Cheers for the help guys, keep it coming!
