1109491 2010-06-12 06:15:00 I use XP, which I have recently reinstalled. Today I downloaded SP3, and now get a message during bootup, saying something like "Windows cannot start, the file Windows root\System 32\hal.dll is missing or corrupted". I can boot after restating and pressing F12, and selecting the appropriate HDD to boot from. How do I avoid this? Brucem (8688)
1109492 2010-06-12 06:17:00 From within windows try going start-run-cmd

then type sfc /scannow

note space between c and / it should ask for the XP disc this searches and replaces lost dll files

1109493 2010-06-12 08:00:00 Thanks for the suggestion Gary, I have tried this twice, and there is no change. I have checked boot up in BIOS, and it is OK. Brucem (8688)
