1111514 2010-06-19 04:29:00 Hiya, I am a bit slow in the technology. Only got my own one this year.

I had a look of my motherboard's bios - boot sequence list-box. USB is not listed there. Does that mean my system cannot boot off a USB stick?

:)

1111515 2010-06-19 04:34:00 Does that mean my system cannot boot off a USB stick? Not always -- What you do is plug in the USB Drive (back Ports work best), then reboot the PC into the BIOS and then it may give the option to select the USB Drive. ( two of my Work shop PC's are like that) wainuitech (129)
1111516 2010-06-19 04:36:00 Probably but it may say something else or your USB could possibly be made to emulate a FDD.

What is listed in the BIOS?

1111517 2010-06-19 04:39:00 Not all flash drives are bootable. And not all computers support booting from one Speedy Gonzales (78)
1111518 2010-06-19 04:40:00 Thanks, when I plugged it in, it says "Removable Device"

I only have a cheap Sandisk Cruzer. How does one know which USB stick is bootable and how does one prepare them to be bootable?

...but all USB flash drives can be made bootable. Check your facts.

1111520 2010-06-19 04:43:00 I only have a cheap Sandisk Cruzer.That will be fine.

How does one know which USB stick is bootable...They all support booting, they just have to be set up correctly.

...and how does one prepare them to be bootable? This depends what exactly you want to boot with it (e.g. Linux, a BIOS flash utility, DOS, a Windows installer etc).

Can you give us a bit more information about what you're wanting to achieve?

Wrong. Check yours. Ive got a 4GB Ducati, it ISNT bootable. Sandisk said so

I am personally disinclined to believe Sandisk's technical support unless they can provide a reason, and I am disinclined to believe you without evidence noting how often you are wrong.

Note that all USB flash drives support at least the USB Mass Storage standard - and anything supporting that standard can be booted from if set up correctly. In order to be unbootable, a flash drive would have to*not* support that standard...

1111523 2010-06-19 04:55:00 Just DOS while it can access my USB external HDDs etc...

I been googling it, can be complex of what we want. Gone are my days of DOS lol. I still have my trusty system disks on floppy.
