1111321 2010-06-18 06:09:00 Does anyone know what codecs to use for converting video files to MPEG4 files to play from a USB flash drive plugged into a Sony television?

None of my videos will play and I'm getting the runaround from Sony who don't know the answer either. :(

I have no problem playing music and image files via the USB drive, just videos.

1111322 2010-06-18 06:14:00 You dont need codecs. See if this works (www.smallvideosoft.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1111323 2010-06-18 12:03:00 Handbrake or Super should convert your videos.

1111324 2010-06-18 20:44:00 It really depends on the model, but most of the TV's I've seen are compatible with the XviD video codec, MP3 audio, in either an AVI or MP4 container.

KarameaDave's first link to Handbrake is your best bet :)

Unfortunately after getting my hopes up for our TV to do the same, I couldn't be bothered with converting all the time, so got one of these:

+1 for Handbrake as well.

Yes, I discovered last night that that works. Finally!

Didn't have much luck with SUPER and haven't tried Handbrake but AVS Video is doing a good job for what I want to do. Not free but at least it is user-friendly.

Thanks for the help. :)
