| 1111132 | 2010-06-17 21:03:00 | Hi, I occasionally work on a computer that is NOT (can't be) connected to the internet... however it has a virus on it which infects USB flash drives whenever we connect one to it. I tried installing MS Security Essentials on it, but found that it would not install without an internet connection. So now I'm after any other suggestions on an antivirus program I can get on there to remove this virus (with up-to-date files). Will AVG work? Or do I need bought software on a CD? Thanks, Mike. |

| 1111134 | 2010-06-17 21:57:00 | Could you remove the drive and slave it to another system to scan? If you know which virus it is you could see if one of the major antivirus companies make a specific removal tool for it. Avast (I know it's not the greatest ) does have an installer for its updates I have successfully installed it to machines in the past that aren't connected to the Internet. www.avast.com |

Or install something like this (raylin.wordpress.com) or this to write protect it (www.gaijin.at). Or remove it put it in another system with an AV program on it. Then scan it |

I'll take a look at avast and see what it does. Does the flash drive have a write-protect switch on it?? If it does switch it. Then it wont write to it. Once you remove whatever. Then scan itThe PC is used by several people and many flash drives, so unfortunately write protecting isn't always an option. An antivirus program is probably my best option, as I never know what is on these flash drives that people are plugging into the PC, so it would be a good option for keeping the PC clean in the future I guess? The PC is attached to a sound-mixing and video desk, so there is often music/powerpoints/video put onto the PC from the flash drives (or vice versa), and from a wide range of sources, so best bet is to get something onto the PC that will keep it clean... but something that I can get on there and keep updated without an internet connection. Cheers, Mike. |

Put them on a flash drive, then copy them across You could try trojan remover below on it (boot into safe mode - if its 32 bit, its not compat with 64 bit), download the updates manually, then click on scan, then select all options under the utils menu. MSE would have to have access to the net to validate the install I would say |

| 1111139 | 2010-06-18 00:25:00 | I think so, AVG, Avast. This maybe AVG's updates (free.avg.com). And Avast (www.avast.com). But, I dont use either of them. You'll have to go to the other AV sites to see if they've got standalone updates, if you dont install AVG or Avast. Or get Mcafee Stinger (us.mcafee.com) for now, then run it. See what it finds |

| 1111141 | 2010-06-18 10:07:00 | If it automatically infects any flash drive plugged into it, one way to get rid of it is let it infect a thumbdrive, transfer it to a fully protected pc (disable auto play and scan it) and then get the name of the virus and find a removal tool for it. Rename the file for it, put it on the thumb drive, then chuck it into the originally infected pc. | 8ftmetalhaed (14526) | ||
