1110631 2010-06-16 03:46:00 Hi There, a new WD 1.5TB HD has just been installed, initialised and attempted to partition into 4. However, the Windows DiskM Utility said, 4th parthtion could not be completed because of an I/O device error. Hence, they were reduced to 2 and the System is now OK! I'm sure, if I had done only 3, it would have said the same. I've had this earlier too. Did some reading but couldn't find them relevant to this scenario.

So I'm wondering what is failing my PC to take the (3rd or) 4th partition in and in that how Vista64, Athlon 64 x2 and the M2NPV-VM mobo (with 4 SATA capabilitiy) are involved. I reserve my doubts about the mobo, though.

Any clues and how I can successfully manage this. Thanks.

1110634 2010-06-16 04:33:00 Sorry Speedy, just missed by the time lag to edit. It is internal. Thanks SolMiester. I'll be looking into it now. namboothiri (14469)
1110635 2010-06-16 04:37:00 Whats the model of the hdd? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1110636 2010-06-16 05:16:00 Hi Speedy, it is Caviar Green. Also SolMiester, it seems, it is easily said than done. I had a look at the ASUS EZ Flash 2 Utility and I suppose, there is a process to carry on very carefully to get it right. At present, the BIOS set up says it is 'unable to load this drive or directory'. I definitely need more expertise to do this. namboothiri (14469)
1110637 2010-06-16 05:20:00 Asus easyflash is very painless I have used it a few times before I am was very dubious before hand gary67 (56)
1110638 2010-06-16 05:25:00 Thanks Gary67, please let me explore how to go about this. Do SolMiester and Speedy have any comments? namboothiri (14469)
1110639 2010-06-16 05:27:00 With EZ-flash, if you're using a flash drive, you have to make sure its formatted in FAT 16/32, and not NTFS. And it has to have a single partition (some USB flash drives have 2). You may want to check the forum (vip.asus.com). See if anyone else has had the same prob with the mobo Speedy Gonzales (78)
