1110491 2010-06-15 19:42:00 I bought a new computer a year ago from Insite through a local agency.
The machine is a quad 4.
The native OS was Windows Vista, but I got them to replace this with Win XP.
Right from the beginning it has performed as if it had only one core.
Every time you give it a command of any kind, there is a perceptible pause before it does what you ask. This applies to every operation on files and apps.
Can anyone explain what is wrong with this machine.
The computer takes about 10 minutes to load up, and a very long time to shut down.

1110493 2010-06-15 21:44:00 Does your processor support HyperThreading (if it's Intel) or Hyper-Transport (if it's AMD)? GreacherTech (15784)

Sounds like they screwed up the install someplace, since its been doing it from day 1.

1110495 2010-06-15 22:32:00 Just a thought how much RAM does it have? gary67 (56)
1110496 2010-06-15 22:51:00 Oh also do you have adequate cooling? Hanging is usually caused by overheating but that would be apparent pretty quick I think. GreacherTech (15784)

No it is not usually or ever caused by overheating.

1110498 2010-06-15 23:03:00 Actually I've just trolled back through the previous posts from the OP. A number of other questions have been asked but he/she never seems to get back to us.

Maybe this time will be different I hope!

Depends weather it's hanging on startup or just when executing tasks. If it's hanging while booting then usually you suspect overheating.

1110500 2010-06-16 02:58:00 But if it were overheating, it'd probably shutdown before it got into windows. If it hangs before getting into windows, it could be a driver prob. Or a program in startup Speedy Gonzales (78)
