818303 2009-10-09 06:26:00 I'm looking to replace my cellphone. The only requirement I have is that I can synchronise my Outlook Calendar with my cellphone calendar. All the specs I have seen that mention this talk about synchro with Exchange. Does this amount to the same thing? I'm just looking at being able to plug the phone into my PC and have the two calendars synchronise.

Someone has suggested the Okta Touch would do the job.

Opinions, anyone? I'm truly not interested in all the other fancy features available, although I realize they will probably come with the territory.

818305 2009-10-09 08:25:00 Sync with Exchange is not the same thing as sync with Outlook. Exchange is an enterprise mailserver application. Erayd (23)
818306 2009-10-09 08:32:00 My venerable Palm Treo 650 (yes, still running it!) synchronises beautifully - and directly - with Outlook (every version since Outlook 2000 that I have used - now 2007).

However it's on the Telecom CDMA network and I imagine you'll be wanting something a little newer than a phone that originally came out in 2003!!!

818307 2009-10-09 09:38:00 Exchange is an enterprise mailserver application.Yes, I knew that - which is why I asked the question, as I have been given the impression that the sync happens with both exchange and outlook, but the specs don't say that. Tony (4941)

In fact XT would cost me far more than I am paying at present. Tony (4941)

If you sync your phone with Exchange, and Outlook also uses Exchange, then they will both have access to the same data - perhaps this is the source of the confusion? Erayd (23)
818310 2009-10-09 09:53:00 Sync with one does not imply sync with the other. If you sync your phone with Exchange, and Outlook also uses Exchange, then they will both have access to the same data - perhaps this is the source of the confusion?I wasn't suggesting that - just that the implication I have been given is that both are possible with various different devices - but that is not explicit in the specs. Have I made it clear at last? I do know the difference between Outlook and Exchange.:) Tony (4941)

This one's a tad expensive - you can pick them up for around $110 if you're not in a hurry.

This phone is the ancestor (if that's not too pretentious) of the iPhone and all the iPhone wannabes - touch screen (stylus or finger, depending on the app) and full smartphone functionality: web browsing, mail, threaded messaging, calendar, contacts, camera (including video), word and excel (optional extras) and a heap of other apps, either cheap or free.

All this two or three years before anyone else got close to this kind of functionality on a phone.

And then Palm lost the plot and started selling devices with Windows Mobile installed. Disaster.

Don't go near any Windows Mobile device Tony, unless you like horrible user interfaces and constant restarts....

EDIT: Yes, I admit it, I am a Palm fanboy... :D

Oh, gotcha - I didn't understand quite what you were asking then ;). I can't help you with that sorry, as I'm not familiar with that specific model of phone.
