818548 2009-10-17 20:07:00 Joking aside, here is the only decent analysis that I have found of why the Peace Prize went to Obama: Nobel Geopolitics (www.stratfor.com), on Stratfor (Strategic Global Intelligence Forecasts).

Summary:
Unlike other Noble prizes, the Peace Prize is decided by 5 Norwegian *politicians*. The reasons why Norwegians and (most) Europeans like Obama are explained in a historical context that include threats from the Soviet Union and Russia. The Stratfor (www.stratfor.com) analysis also points out that Alfred Nobel was never clear about his intentions for this prize.

Thus, we should not think of the Peace Prize as being a true international award, such as being voted by impartial judges from 100 different countries. Instead, it reflects the perception of a select group of Norwegian politicians.

There have been other controversial Peace Prize recipients such as Theodore Roosevelt, 1906, and more recently Al Gore.

Obama himself said that he did not feel that he deserved the award. At some time in the future he may make significant accomplishments towards world peace but the way I see it, the Norwegians were highlighting the huge change in diplomacy between Obama's administration and G W Bush's. The cartoon in my post above is funny but at the same time frightening; everyone except Republican wingnuts knows how damaging the Bush administration has been to world peace and the thought of this trend continuing with Palin a heartbeat away from the red button gave me nightmares.

818549 2009-10-17 22:50:00 Dead right having a **** for brains vp like her would have been pretty dangerous.
Her daughters ex boyfriend said that a lot of things said about her in media were wrong.
She couldn't shoot a barn wall at 5 paces, she cant drive a skidoo, fly a plane etc it was just media hype.
Damn scary when a **** for brains person like her could have access to a button that would flatten Russia.
