1111248 2010-06-18 01:01:00 + 1 for Seagate. I use it to mirror two drives once a week by cloning them. I've not tried to schedule it but it basically does its thing and when finished waits for you to press a key to shut the computer down. Sweep (90)
1111249 2010-06-18 01:21:00 Hmm... I like the look of it but it needs to be able to run reliably, completely unattended, in the middle of the night, one night a week. wratterus (105)
1111250 2010-06-18 01:23:00 I use windows 7 backup without issue.......have you check that VSS is running?, open files are shadow copied before backing up, but if not running would account for a corrupted file\drive message.... SolMiester (139)

Good thought, do you know if the service should be manual start or auto?

auto.....
There are 2 services, MS shadow copy provider and volume shadow copy...if this doesnt help...i would think there really is an issue with the drive......

Sweet, will double check those. I would have thought that windows backup would have configured those services as necessary when it was setup.

Yes, I would too!...I'm guessing they use shadow copy, most open file apps do!...just checked the work pc which while doesnt have backup scheduled, has had a backup run, but doesnt have either of the services running....

I am starting to think its the drive, does it backup other files okay?

Yeah it's fine, no issues at all. Can copy stuff around/use cobian with no issues.

Chkdsk found no problems and the drive passed a diag.

1111256 2010-06-30 22:12:00 Changing those services to Auto appears to have fixed the problem, 2 backups have run without issue so far. :badpc:

Cheers for the help Sol.
