817709 2009-10-07 18:57:00 Gee thanks guys !
You say that Briscoes Henderson and Riccarton still have them.
They are great, I have had mine for 18 months and use it 2 or 3 times a day.
The glass bubble is great as you can see how much water is it without having to stare or open the lid etc.
I want to get one from my mum (getting on a bit so will be a good safety feature) and I would not mind a spare one for myself for when my one craps out (as all cordless ones do when the base connection fails)
I will try my local Briscoes to see if they can get a couple sent down to me. I went in to our Tauranga shop the other day, but could not see any on shelves, but I did not ask the staff, so they may still have some hidden away.
It was amazing when I phoned all the other retailers the all said they had had them, but they were great or they did not sell that well. Perhaps it is the glass that makes them dear, which is why they are selling them at $40 to clear their stocks.

817710 2009-10-08 07:53:00 OK, I might look at one then. I don't want to overload SWMBO with work, she gets pretty tired pushing the lawnmower with the spring growth and the soggy ground. The digging is getting her down too, I should sharpen the shovel again since last time I did that (about three years ago) she got much more productive.

Don't forget to empty the hoover bag, have plenty of washing powder & check the security of the ball & chain by the sink. Oh & get yourself a crash helmet with built in ear plugs, they're dangerous creature when left in charge of shovels

817711 2009-10-08 09:04:00 We have a white one - for about 5 years or more I think. I also think we bought it at Briscoes - and they are still advertising at least the black version from time to time still. :) R.M. (561)

Emptying hoover bags, washing powder and such like are not in my job description. No need for a crash hlmet etc, R2 models all incorporate a sort of built-in Ned Kelly suit, and a little taser training lasts quite a while, so I think I am as safe as can be expected when dealing with such a potentially lethal species.
What era do you think I am in with the ball and chain by the sink? We have progressed a long way from that, a long wire and running leash allow her freedom to fetch beer or snacks and deliver same to my favourite resting spot, avoiding that noisy business with the ball and chain system. Also, if she is getting a bit tired and the work output drops off below a reasonable level it is a simple matter to fire a jolt from the taser into the overhead wire and renew her work ethic without the inconvenience of getting up from my chair. You can save yourself a lot of work with this sort of planning.

817713 2009-10-08 20:48:00 Oops I forgot to say that the two Briscoes branches that still have them in White say they are at their normal price of $120.00.
They are probably worth it, but that does make them quite dear for the average punter.
