| 1111080 | 2010-06-17 09:18:00 | Hi folks, For the past month or two, I've been having an issue on my desktop where whenever I go to browse for images on the internet, the image thumbnails fail to load (I might get a few if I'm lucky but most will come up with a broken link icon). I generally use Google, and whenever that happens, Google crashes for several minutes, so I can't even load up the general web search page. It eventually "refreshes" itself, though. I've tried using a different search engine, like Yahoo, and I get the same problem. I normally use IE8, so I tried downloading Safari and got the same problem there too. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on this machine. I also have a laptop that's running Windows XP and an iPod touch, both of which are wireless and neither of which have any issues loading images on the internet ... so whatever the problem is, it's unique to my Win 7 desktop. I tried asking on the Google support forums, but didn't get much help there. I'm hoping you folks can help me figure it out. At first I thought it was McAfee (I shut it down completely and then tried searching and at first it seemed to be working but upon further investigation, that didn't seem to be the solution after all). I honestly don't know what the problem is but it's a real pain in the ass (), so if you can help me fix it, please don't hesitate to post. Let me know if you need any more info about my computer's specs or anything. Thanks, Jonathan |

| 1111085 | 2010-06-17 10:22:00 | I have tried disabling McAfee (which is not as easy as it looks - I had to do it through the Windows Task Manager) several times. The first time, it seemed to fix the problem ... I could load images in search engines just fine. But then when I went and tried it again several times after that, it didn't seem to make any difference. I'll try the other things. EDIT: OK, fixing the BHO (no name) thing didn't make any difference. I'll try disabling the DVD, Java and QuickTime, although I don't know that'll make any difference either. For the record, McAfee's not picking up any viruses or malware or anything. |

| 1111087 | 2010-06-17 10:51:00 | Unless it is something that McAfee downloaded in an update, I don't see why it would be that program because it hasn't been an issue all along. I've had this computer since late last year and the problem only started a month or so ago (I haven't really been keeping track). I haven't been fiddling with the computer's settings or anything, either. Just one day it stopped working properly and all I can think is that some Windows or other update installed something that screwed it up. Or maybe there's a box ticked somewhere that shouldn't be (or one that's unticked that should be ticked). That's what it is 9 times out of 10 ... it's usually just a matter of locating the box. | pukunui81 (15121) | ||

| 1111089 | 2010-06-19 04:32:00 | I don't see why it would be that program because it hasn't been an issue all along. the problem only started a month or so ago One: It can be a problem even if it wasn't earlier. Two: McAffee is almost as bad as Nortons for not detecting malware. Uninstall it, install some decent protection and then see how you get on before telling us it isn't the problem. |
